Depeche Mode Remastered

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

This supposed to be the demo as presented to Alan Wilder orginally intended to be a slower ballad. I can't remember if this is the version I heard but it seems like it.

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

One of my favorite DM songs

Sea Of Sin is indeed a great song, amazing that its only a b side.

Wilders contribution to DM is underplayed, but dont forget Flood and Francois Korvakian also had a big input into Violator and Flood was back again for SOFAD.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Amazing that they can still come up with songs this good so far into their career...

The song was even better when he said it was about his kids stuck between his divorce.

I tend to overdo my "Alan Wilder is the genius behind Depeche Mode" speech at the expense of others.

I always thought one of the best lines about ML Gore was Andrew Eldritch commenting that it was good to see a pervert at the top of the charts.

Thats interesting Eldritch said that (I've never read that before)

Ive always argued that its not very subversive to dress like a tranny and sing about S&M sex in a death metal band to 50 people. What is subversive, however, is to wear a rubber dress and sing about S&M sex, death, religion and cross dressing on TOTP in front of millions of people. In the UK, for sure, DM dont get recognised for that. They are always "that band that were new romantics" (even though they werent!). In the US (and Europe) they are accepted for what they are - a great band.

Some Great Reward must be the most pervy album to go top 5 in the UK. Even its sound is grubby. It did get to the point where Martin's image started to detract from the music (when he was living in Berlin) but by Black Celebration he had toned it down abit and the music took over again.

Really looking forward to the new album as I've got a funny feeling its going to be an absolute belter...

What music are you listening to at the moment? You said in Mojo that you were a big fan of Martin Gore? Do you like Depeche Mode's latest album, Ultra?
TOP

Andrew Eldritch 1997
At the moment I'm listening to the national anthem, because Radio 4 is about to shut down for the night and give way to the World Service. The national anthem sucks. I like the American one: it's got groovy key changes and words like "rocket" and "bombs". It's about the rights of the citizen. God save our gracious Queen? I don't think so.

Martin's great. We need more perverts in the Top Twenty. Nevertheless, I heard Ultra at a friend's house recently, and it sounded very dreary.

As an avowed Alan supporter I was in denial about Ultra for years. Its a very different sound to the albums leading up to it (alot sparser) and its abit of a slow burn. Now I think its one of DM's most underated albums and "Sister Of Night" one of the Top 5 DM songs of all time.

As an avowed Alan supporter I was in denial about Recoil. While the Depeche Mode aura is present and there is no denying Alan Wilder's genius for production, it seems a lot of the Recoil material is lacking in melody.

That was a long time coming. For a very long time bands that used computers or samplers, no real drums and synths were considered plastic music. Adding live (or live sounding) drums to faith helped their cause. Violator was their break through but A LOT of people could not handle the idea of a band having prerecorded tracks.

Gore said in an interview that on Songs of F&D he was worried about adding drums and then also guitar because what would there be to set the band apart. They would be just another pub band.
