2008-the dumbing down of indie?

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Actually I was trying to find out if people thought we were rubbish!

Back to the orignal theme of this post

I feel that part of the problem with current music is the easy access to it and the fact that today it seems to be more impersonal

Can you remember the days you waited for an album to be released and went to the record shop to buy it .. you waited all the way home .. got in the door, took out the record ---- aaaaahhh the smell of new vinyl all shiny and new -- and you put it on the turntable -- heard the empty crackles and then ... bliss
while each song played you turned the cover over and over looking at the artwork. then you would get your mates over to show them the new album and everybody would sit in your front room listening to the songs .

now days it is all too impersonal and you do not feel that it is your band . you download and listen on an mp3 player to only the tracks you like and this is no 1,372 on your play list -- everyone listens to a piece of everythin and todays bands are everybodies bands and bands do not seem to craft their songs anymore they steal from everybody else ..

I think all bands are gulity of this now and few are experimenting...

for the moment the future of music is in playing live .. pople are craving the live experience

Moses - I think you have summed it up pretty well there.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

I doubt fishing around to say my band supported Mansun at the gig you were at would make much impact. Quite honestly, I never remember the support act unless the main act is so poor that I have walked out. What was your band called?

black francis wrote:"Have You Seen Her Lately" is possibly my favorite Pulp track. One thing I like about of Cocker's songs the theme get away from that loser even though he never puts himself as the answer or even that he's any different or better than the guy.

I just find the whole album a masterpiece, even down to every single b-side. Back then Pulp were my band. My interest in The Bunnymen emerged largely because after Different Class and This Is Hardcore came out, I didn't like the kind of way they were heading musically so I looked for another band.

I think you would remember Smiffys band - they played in drag and during Smiffys six minute guitar solo at the climax of the set he was buggered by the bass player who was wearing a strap on. Even Mansun fans left the bar to see that one. I think its posted on You Tube somewhere...

That's obviously why I don't remember much from the gig. Got horrified at what was going on, walked out and was then so scarred from the experience, turned to alcohol that night until me old brain blotted it out. Cheers. Now I remember.
