The problem with "trying" to get into extremely influential bands after the fact is that you hear nothing special-- their influence has been completely subsumed into all the music you are already familiar with, and has been incorporated into the baseline. ( I have already told the story of how I was psyched to get into Charlie Parker, after already being familiar with 19050's-era jazz. All I heard was old, poorly-recorded be-bop. The fact that he invented it and what he was playing was considered borderline impossible at the time does not come through on the recording.)
With The Beatles, though, it's easy to enjoy them just on the level of one great tune after another. Marvelling at the extend of their body of work can add to the experience, but you don't need an out-of body experience just to enjoy a whole bunch of great songs.
