Arcade Fire-Neon Bible

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Arcade Fire-Neon Bible

I have only just come across this album after listening to a radio one show. I wanted to dismiss it as pretentious but I am beginning to think it is a work of grandeur-the presenter compared it to Ocean Rain. Though there are no individuals on the level of the early Bunnymen, as a group the seem to have learnt a lot of their lessons.

If a super nice guy like Wayne Coyne thinks they are a bunch of pretentious pricks, they probably are. I still like their music though.

Vastly overrated I reckon although I do like the odd track here and there, I've never managed to get through a whole album in one go though.

I prefer funerals to weddings, you don't have to pretend to be happy to be there, they're over in half an hour and there's no need to buy a bloody present.

Irish funerals last much longer and are generally great fun. Everybody laughing in the face of adversity and all that.
Every word is like an unnecessary stain on silence and nothingness.

After further listening, I have to give it the Dr Evil seal of approval. Whilst there is an initial incredulity at it's sheer ambition, this could be the greatest album ever made.
(Apart from my Rozi Plain full band bootleg tapes from the Cellar Bar and the Wilmington Arms.)
If Elvis and Johnny Cash were combined and did an album along the lines of Ocean Rain with the Wagnerian grandeur of Porcupine, Neon Bible would be the result.
