My niece is 16 and she and some of her boy friends trade jeans. Tho it must be on the comical side for them, since she's 4 foot 10.
Being cords the one's I had were stretchy, but I'd really have needed at the time to be as a thin as a rake and lack muscular legs. Kind of have a Peter Crouch (the English footballer) type build without the height. The only person that seemed to look the part with that style on was Jarvis Cocker during his Pulp days.
I suppose, judging by your niece trading these jeans, guys and girl's fashion has badly crossed over. Still, at least they aren't trading each other's underpants and your niece's bras - now that would be worrying.
