Your most recent member is a spammer. You should delete him, but we are probably going to get a flood of spam starting now.

That's the one problem with DIY bulletin boards and opens source BBs, you always get flooded with spam, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Thanks for letting me know. They seem to have a naughty website. I've removed them before but the thing is, they sign up but never activate the account mainly because the e-mail they enter is bogus, so they can't post anyway. I've not seen one yet that signed up and posted, but they still show up in the member list to advertise their porn sites.

People have written some spambot mods for phpbb that I will look into if it becomes a problem.

I went ahead and applied one of the anti-spam mods.

Generally what the spambots do is scan for certain types of message boards like vBulletin and phpbb and attempt to register adding a website in the initial step, usually porn. Since they use a fake e-mail they can never activate the account and post. The main goal for them is to add that website. Then they become inactive members but show up in the memberlist with than spammer website, which the search engines like Google and Yahoo pick up. then the board becomes a nest of sorts for these types of websites.

Now when you register you are warned that filling out certain fields will cause the registration to fail and that you can fill them in once you activate your account. Then I get an e-mail with the registration attempt and a log of the IP if one of those fields is filled out.

I always hated that commercial. It seemed awfully contrived. So, what, the father smoked weed in front of his son, then wanted to know where the son learned about weed? I doubt the father would walk into such an obvious slam, since he would remember smoking weed in front of his kid. Secondly, I hated the way the dad would keep asking the kid questions then cutting off all his answers. Thirdly, the son is a dork and so is his dad.
