Fun...
Though, gentlemen - if it smells like fish (or bread dough), don't put your mouth on it.

Good hygiene is ever so important.

I think how you take care of yourself during your "non musician" hours greatly effects your ability to play.

Years of playing drums and going to shows was starting to take it's toll on my ears. I had the early warnings of hearing damage (slight ringing), got myself to the doc for a hearing test. Luckily I've only lost a little high range. Got custom made earplugs, well worth the investment. So I nipped that problem in the bud b/f it became serious.

Your overall health obviously plays a key role. The indulges of a 20 year old musician will def. catch up with you if you don't watch yourself. Diet, exercise, "substance" intake will determine how long and how well you'll be able to play for years to come.

And some are just blessed with good genetics too.

I saw Roxy Music on their reunion tour in what 2002 or so.......could not believe how good they were! Ferry looks and sounds amazing, despite the fact he still smokes.

I was fortunate enough to see Elvin Jones several times b/f he passed. I believe he was in his late 70s. He walked and talked a bit slow, played with the passion and energy of a 20 year old.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, look for a vid of a Jimi Hendrix tribute on youtube. I think it's Slash, Mitch Mitchell, and others I cannot recall at the present time. Poor Mitch..........a shell of his former self.

Sorry, this is getting a little long winded. So I guess what I'm trying to get at........is take care of yourself and you should be to play for as long your hearts into it!

I saw that tour too. I think what might have helped Fez to look and sound so amazing was the fact that, at the time he was dating one of his backup singers/dancers who was at least 30 years younger than himself.
