The Rules Of The Board (MUST READ)
Hello happy board people.
Here at the Depeche Mode Message Board (DMMB), we try to have a peaceful area for Depeche Mode fans to chat.
We don't have many rules, but the rules we do have are very important. We recommend you read these rules...at least once a week (make it a mantra).
The F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions) and rules for posting on this board:
* When registering on the board, PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION to how you type your email address. If you never received a confirmation email, you more than likely did not type your email address correctly.
* Email addresses do not start off with "www.". Please learn about how to use the internet before attempting to register on this message board.
* Did you used to have an account on here, and now it is gone? We regularly prune users from the message board whose email addresses bounce often. Simply re-register.
* DO NOT put your email address as your username. This is more for your benefit than a board policy. You will receive a large increase in spam emails due to posting your email address so publicly. If you are stumped for a username, why not try using everything before the "@" symbol. For example, if your email address is dmfan99@hotmail.com, try entering the username dmfan99.
* "Hi, I'm New!" While we welcome new members on the board, we are clocking in at over 30,000 members, most of which don't want to read a post that simply announces your arrival. Instead, please just join in on existing discussions. Board users will see your post count, and be able to see if you are new or not.
* Don't hijack threads! If there is a thread existing about a remix 12" single (for example), and you contribute by posting about your pet / car / the color of the sky, you are hijacking a thread. Stay within topic, or post a new topic. Don't hijack (change the topic) of existing threads).
* Be careful where you post! There are a multiple areas of the forum. Take a moment to read through some of the topics within each area of the forum before you make a post.
* Please do not post links to material protected by copyright on this message board, or request links to such materials through email or instant messenger. This includes not only Depeche Mode material, but other material (movies, tv shows, other bands, software, et cetera).
* Be nice to all people on the board (including the moderators!). Failure to respect the opinions of other board members (commonly known as "being a troll") will result in a week long ban for the first infraction, followed by a permanent ban for repeat infractions! You can disagree, but be nice about it!
* Don't be a troll (see above). Do not feed the trolls. Instead, be smart, and alert a moderator of the situation! Don't post comments to the trolls. You might end up on the business end of a one week ban for making the situation worse!
* While we won't specifically remove speculation from the board, please know that the policy is to not comment on fan posted speculation (rumours). We would always suggest that if you want the latest accurate, confirmed news, that you should hit the front page of depechemode.com. A small, loud handful of people occasionally complain that the official site is slow to post news (or confirm rumours that have been around the net for a period of time). It is the position of the web site to post accurate news. The web site does not put news up until it is accurate, and confirmed.
* Please use private messaging to communicate between two people, instead of cluttering the board with new threads. Seeing a thread that has hundreds of posts, and all it contains are two people typing "Hi", "Hello", "How Are You Today?, "Fine" is a waste of board space. Please take your two person conversation to email, private message, or any popular Instant Messaging system.
* Registration approvals are every Friday (usually at night, Los Angeles time). If, after Friday, you have not had your account activated, then you should contact a moderator (either Admin/BRATMix or Steventoo).
* You may only have one account. If you are found to have multiple accounts, all of the accounts will be removed. There is no reason why you would need more than one account.
* You can not edit your posts. Due to widespread abuse, this feature has been removed. Complaining about it just makes the moderators sad, so please just type slower. This is not a big issue. Some people just like to make it a big issue.
* Please use the search feature on the board before you create a post.
* If a thread was closed, or deleted, there was a good reason for it. If you are curious why (and you were involved in the post), simply message one of the moderators about it. Please do not re-post the closed/deleted post. This will result in an infraction, or ban.
* Posting links, images or information about the band's families is strongly discouraged, and infractions will be handed out to anyone who does this. Please respect the privacy of the band.
* Vince and Alan are not in the band anymore. They are not coming back. Please move on...
* We sometimes attract a number of - shall we say - juveline posts. Whenever possible, try not to post such classic topics such as "(band member) has a (adjective) (body part)" or the previously mentioned "Hi, I'm New!". Those posts will be deleted in due time...
* Posting lyrics from a DM song, and then below that (in the same post) talking about your cat / your day / the weather / the a****** webmaster does not make the topic DM related!
* No eBay spamming! If you are only joining this board to promote your sales on eBay, go somewhere else.
* Keep your hormones in check! Most of you are 30 years old, or older. Try to act like it. Other board members don't need to know what gets you in the mood, or what a song does to you. Remember, some users here are under the legal age. Also, someone might be eating while reading, and that type of topic can ruin a meal!
* This message board is English only. Since the moderators of the board have enough of a problem with the English language, there is no way for them to moderate in other languages. All non-English posts will be deleted. This is not to offend any non-English speaking people, but we can not moderate what we can not read.
* Don't try to sell bootleg materials on the board. Any such posts made will be deleted, and the account of the poster will be deleted. You can, however, trade materials (snail mail, bit torrent, et cetera). Be cautious when offering trades, however. You are posting on a board with thousands of people. You might get more emails than you desire. This also applies to posting links to live mp3 files (and fan mixes of released music). Think before you post. Again, selling is bad. Trading is good.
* If a thread passes 250 posts, it will be closed. If you want to keep that thread alive, create another one. Common practice is to number the additional threads. An example: "Best Picture Of Dave, Part 1", "Best Picture Of Dave, Part 2", et cetera.
* If you don't wish to create a custom user title, the board automatically generates one for you, based on your number of posts. The rundown:
ignoring the F.A.Q. (under 20 posts)
sort of read the F.A.Q. (20-39 posts)
Read The F.A.Q, but ignoring it (40-59 posts)
DMMB Member (60+ posts)
DMMB Veteran (500+ posts)
DMMB Survivor (1000+ posts)
DMMB Elder (3000+ posts)
I need a life (4000+ posts)
I have no "real life" friends (5000+ posts)
* We respect and understand that many people that visit the board are doing so from work. As such, these people are usually very bored, and looking to kill time. If you wish to kill time, that is up to you, but please don't violate these rules.
People who do not follow these simple rules will receive a one week ban. People who insit on violating these rules over and over will be removed from this board. This is a happy board, and any people who try to ruin the board for other people will be removed. Simple as that.
If you don't like the way this board operates, please leave. Want a more permanent solution? Go and message the moderators (Admin/BRATMIX or Steventoo), and ask to be removed.
Again, if you just registered, YOU CAN NOT POST UNTIL FRIDAY! You have to allow for the registration process.
This message board was created at the request of Andrew Fletcher (Fletch), who wanted fans to have a reliable location to communicate with each other. Please respect the board, and post responsibly.
Enjoy your stay on the Depeche Mode Message Board!
