Blast from the past

Zidane puts a free kick past David James 14 years later. The less excited commentator is Thierry Henry.

What do you reckon of France's chances Kounelaki? I fancy a bet on a couple of teams out of Brazil, France and Argentina at the mo'.

They have an amazing squad on paper but drew with USA! USA! USA! at the weekend ... Koscielny's injury means there is only one reliable defender. But as Spain have just taken the batshit-crazy role, they may be in with a shot. Bonne chance in any case

TV starting blacking out last night--on the eve of the World Cup! Remember when TVs lasted decades? With the USA being too crap to qualify, I can just watch the tournament as a neutral

Robbie Williams looks like a slim Morrissey these days. Props to the Russian fan dressed like Ivan the Terrible.

Did I say awful? I meant complete and utter crap! I hope that's the worst game in the tournament.

today we get Portugal v Spain, arguably the most-anticipated match of the group stage (and one which is therefore surely destined to end 0-0)

Will Suarez bite anybody today?
