Freddie Mercury

Postby Malbert » Fri Aug 10, 2012 11:36 am

I just read a fantastic book about him by Lesley Ann Jones titled "Mercury". I had not read anything about him before this, so I cannot compare it to other books regarding his life. I was a Queen fan when I was very young: every Friday night we'd have pizza with my grandparents at a restaurant and "We Are the Champions"/ "We Will Rock You" played constantly on the jukebox.

He was a great vocalist.

Yep. Never liked Queen back in the day, but Mercury has to rank as one of the greatest vocalists of all time. There's supposed to be a movie in the pipeline about his life isn't there?

Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play Mercury.

Seriously.

I guess he looks like him enough to do it. They must be dubbing in a singer though right?

That's a little suspicious.

do what? the singing? He'd get away with the 80s butch freddie but not the early 70s funny looking dude with straggly hair. I'd never heard him speak until the tribute programs when he snuffed it.

I generally ignored queen after night at the opera though one of my mates was a massive fan - he even used to wear a catsuit in the band we were briefly in together. The other thought I had - when they did the music for highlander he must have already known he was on his way out so all that 'who wants to live forever' stuff must have been close to home. Also - when he sand wirth monserrat wossname (barcelona) he more than held his own, whereas bonio vs pavarotti, not so much. oo, did i just attempt to turn this into a u2 slagging thread. Nice one.

Maybe CGI. Look what they did with Brad Pitt in "Benjamin Button." I can tell you that Marc has already done stuff with Queen, so he's got some experience already. When I was reading the book, it mentioned several times that Freddie was self conscious of his teeth. The man was worth millions; I don't know why he never got them fixed if it bothered him that badly.

singers dont like fiddling with anything that might affect their voice. not that i have a clue why that might change it. all i know is that's the reason rod stewart declined to have his nose fixed.
