The Iron Lady

I watched this movie last night, and while I do not like flashback movies, I thought Meryl Streep was her usual excellent self in the title role. In one scene she is rooting through a medicine cabinet ridding it of her dead husbands items, and I saw something called Windcheaters and wondered what that was for? The only thing I could think of was an anti-gas medication (which is a great name for that type of product, btw). Is that what it is?

Do you guys in the UK really hate her? By the way my only sources leading me to believe so are Morrissey and Mac. That question is based on nothing else.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Well...where do we start....she was determined to crush the power of the unions and remove government intervention.Unfortunately with this ideal came no social reponsibility...so......free market forces ruled and she closed down docks, mines and in my part of the country many steelworks. This lead to mass unemployment in these areas whilst service industries started making more money giving rise to the yuppie era.Ultimately she destroyed the manufaturing base in the UK and personally I despise for leaving the Black Country a mass of ghost factories.Ultimately her free narket force model collapsed when interest rates hit nearly 15% on Black Wednesday .

Not my fave.

I'm sure many loathed her, but overall, they liked her enough to keep her employed as PM for over 10 yrs. Dave's answer would be similar to ours if he asked, "Do you really hate (insert Pres. of choice here)?"

I was not of voting age during the Thatcher years, but the problem as I see it was the only alternative - Labour - was terribly crap with crap leaders (Michael Foot and Kinnock). Bit like the Tories were later with Hague, Duncan Smith and Howard that enabled Blair to keep getting in again. Thatcher's legacy was that it took the them almost another decade to get back in power and even then, not with a majority. I wonder how you Americans viewed Blair, apart from being George W Bush's little pet dog, I thought he was incredibly smarmy. Same with Cameron now, while Cleggie is like his batboy or bumboy if you are unfortunate enough to have gone to Eton or some other toff school.

I'll leave it to Wylie.

No one was forced to vote for her

Until the Falklands she was on her way into political oblivion...massively unpopular

Can't believe we voted her in three times
It wouldn't work if Mac was a slaphead would it.

US founding fathers did not set President term limits. That came after FDR.

I'm not trying to be literal. It's a general, blanketed "thank you" to them.
