Misguided, bad advice. No matter. Not surprising really, but interesting they actually used such a small amount of their donations. I will never donate money to charity for that very reason as the majority spend more on their overheads like staff. I'd rather government takes responsibility for helping rather than some of these charities. Sad thing is, Bono had an opportunity to develop a charity that bucked the trend and actually provided a large amount of money to help people. Very sad really. I don't feel sorry for him even if he might have been naive when setting it up.
Like him setting up clothing production in China, I remember hearing a story during the Asian Tsunami where one charity decided to ship in fresh mineral water into the region. They could have used local suppliers to keep costs low but decided to team-up with a prominent Western mineral water company with each bottle costing more, as well as the whole transportation by sea being pretty expensive. Great for the mineral water company, a bit of free advertising (look at us helping those poor people), but at what financial cost?
