(AP) While attempting to condemn the Muslim religion, Reverend Jones of Gainesville, Florida accidentally set the Old Testament ablaze to the shock of Christians and librarians worldwide.
“It was an honest mistake. The two books, especially the early chapters, are just so similar,” Rev. Jones argued.
The accidental burning became apparent to church parishioners when Jones, watching the burning book, pulled out the Koran, raised it over his head and yelled, “This is the true word of God!”
Upon realization of what Jones had done, parishioners immediately knelt and then immediately stood and then immediately knelt. This continued for a few confused minutes.
“It was terrible,” Jones’ daughter told reporters. “It was even worse than when he made us where those Jesus t-shirts the first day of school and take down my Justin Bieber posters!”
Liberals concerned with burning books and the Evangelical Right have suddenly found themselves agreeing on an issue causing even more grief throughout the United States.
Sarah Palin and her local librarian shared a tearful embrace despite meeting for the very first time.
“She said she wanted to know more about libraries. I think there may be a silver lining,” librarian Pinkerton said.
Throughout much of the Muslim world Reverend Jones has become a hero. In ultra rural Afghanistan, the Taliban have been said to be repealing their ban on idolatry as the likeness of Jones is being carved into the side of one of the Hindu Kush Mountains.
“He has become a hero throughout the Islamic world,” Qari Din Mohammad said. “Muslims the world over have proclaimed today ‘Burn A Bible Day.’ Thank you Imam Jones.”
