Evel Knievel

Just saw that he passed away. I remember being all excited about the Snake River Canyon jump in second grade. What a disappointment THAT was. NOT EVEN CLOSE, guy. I remember wishing I had a red-white-and-blue jumpsuit and cape.

When I saw the title of the post I immediately thought of the Snake River thing and second grade! That was quite a big hubub amongst the second graders as I recall.

Everyone in my family watched that jump. It was like when the Beatles played Ed Sullivan. LOL! It truly was disappointing when he missed it. Then we went and ate.

Lol, love that picture Brian!
I just saw Evel in the paper with Kanye West and thought how old he looked.
That Snake River Canyon Jump was one of those things that all Americans that lived in that time remembers watching. It was a massive stunt and he was a great showman.
I remember my whole family gathered around the little tv we had. The crash was terrible!

Oh my - that costume is priceless! I also remember the family gathering for the big Snake River jump (or lack thereof). Think I remember watching some prior EK events too. I guess some people benefited from there being only 3 TV networks...

Other memorable television gatherings of years passed:
The New Years Eve implosion of a hotel in Las Vegas (why did we watch that?)
The Lunar Landing
RFK's funeral. I was mad that the cartoons were cancelled but I can still remember it.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles' wedding
Ronald Reagan's last speech
Princess Diana's funeral

I'm sure that there were alot more.

It wasn't an "event" per se, but the bicentennial made a big impression. I was like ,"Wow 1976, we're in the future now."
