BBC Day Of The Triffids 2009

Postby Scouser » Mon Dec 28, 2009 2:02 pm

Looking forward to part 1 of the BBC's new big budget rendition of Day Of The Triffids - one of my fave books when I was growing up. I liked the BBC's early 80's version but the Triffids looked like the plastic models they were, from what I've seen of the re-tooled version the Triffids are cgi.

Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Bad acting (especially by the Triffids) and about 1/2 an hour too long I reckon.

I gave up after half an hour. Typical BBC drivel. Did they even CGI a close up of the Triffids? All I saw were dodgy tentacles and distant pine cones on a motorway. Even these lo-fi buggers were more scary:

I haven't been the greatest fan of the Beeb's sexed-up, camp, cheesy Doctor Who, but even the last episode was much enjoyable to watch, at least because of John Simm's acting and the return of Time Lords, including Timothy Dalton spitting out his lines, slobber included. Great stuff.

Well, I liked it actually!

They held the Triffids back to the end - but they looked great.

I admit it was abit too long, I'm not suprised people gave up after half an hour as not alot had happened up until then, then they tried to cram loads in!

Looking forward to part 2 tonight...

Bugger. I missed them then.

I found it too long winded to watch it all through to the end ~ the beginning reminded me of 28 Days Later mixed in with some American HBO series, and I was too busy sniggering at the extras pretending they had been blinded - they probably would have been better casted in 28 Days Later or more appropriately, Shaun of the Dead as it was almost comedy acting. I kind of lost my way after that.

I'd rather be caught in a deadly, shuffling Triffid attack than watch the rest of it.

I know it's your sworn duty to defend anything with a passing Sci Fi theme but admit it, it's a load of badly cast, badly acted, overlong tripe.

It was no 28 Days Later-but what is? The second part was better. I prefer films such as the The Thing and particularly Slither. I haven't laughed so much in ages.
As for Doctor Who, the dead hand of politically correct fascism in the name of "the children" has neutered the series. As a kid it was great to see Morbius's brain blow up and other gore. In the "Waters of Mars" episode the zombies were meant to be horrific but they toned it down.
I'm looking forward to the return of the Heroes TV series, and also the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I was just thinking-anyone who's name really is Sarah Connor must be subject to constant Terminator pranks?

Is it true that David Tennant has been voted as the best ever Doctor in most polls. Can't understand that. There was only one Doctor Who for me:
