McCain's taking a beating. Check out electoral-vote.com
Yesterday at this time, Obama only had a 6 point lead (statistical dead heat).

Different story with the new polls coming in:

this is easier

Look. Graphs.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7302341.stm

Just look at the number of bonds backed by mortgages worldwide.

And look at the value of the housing market. Hope no one plans on getting a low interest loan to build a house or new kitchen.

We are so ^%&*&&**()$#.

Ireland is first eurozone nation in recession

DUBLIN (AFP) — Ireland on Thursday became the first eurozone member to fall into a recession since the US subprime home loan crisis sparked a global economic slowdown, official data showed.

Ireland's economy, rocked by a domestic property market meltdown, entered recession for the first time in 25 years after shrinking in the second quarter of 2008, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said in a statement.

European neighbours Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain sit on the brink of recession amid global economic turmoil. Denmark, which is not in the eurozone, fell into recession -- two successive quarters of negative growth -- earlier this year.

Hey BF, your $23.14 in that WaMu account will now be at JP Morgan.
WaMu was the largest bank to date to fail, but JP Morgan bought it,
making it the 2nd largest behind Bank of America now.

I think we might need airbags along with those seatbelts, since talks to
approve a 'bailout plan' to save the U.S. financial system have failed
today, and markets around the world are being impacted accordingly.

Keep those scorecards out, not sure the financial crisis 'musical chairs' is
over with yet. Unfortunately, WaMu was the one without a chair this time.

..and around the dinner table tonight, those Wachovia employees here in
Charlotte are talking about how their company is probably next without a
chair. Let's just hope a 'rescue plan' gets passed this weekend...

Post-debate spin would have been a natural for her; a chance to be sharp and funny and charming and not worry that some interviewer would ambush her, since any pointed questions aimed at her could be brushed back with a breezy, "Hey, I have to wait my turn; tune in next Thursday. Tonight was John's night."

But once again she was nowhere to be found, and that seemed especially odd given the rough week she'd had. She sat down with Henry Kissinger and various world leaders in New York, in meetings that were initially open to cameras but closed to reporters until the networks threatened to boycott the whole thing. The encounters thus came off as substance free, though the new President of Pakistan did declare her "even more gorgeous" than he'd expected and suggested he'd like to hug her. She summed up her global speed date Wednesday: "It's going great," she said. "The meetings are very informative and helpful. A lot of good people share an appreciation for America."

Her big interview of the week, with CBS News anchor Katie Couric, was sufficiently cringe-making to inspire conservative columnist Kathleen Parker to conclude sadly that for the good of the ticket and the country, Palin should declare she wants to spend more time with her family and step down. And watching her with Couric, you had to wonder what happened to the spirited, sparkling character who swept onstage in St. Paul and turned the race upside down.

Another bloody day here in Charlotte, as I and many of my former colleagues and
clients who currently work there, watch Wachovia fall to its ruin. Just devastating.

It is not a given this bail-out will play out well.

NEW YORK — At least two major banks were reportedly in talks Sunday to buy Wachovia Corp., the latest U. S. bank to be the focus of investor anxiety over mounting losses tied to toxic assets.

The New York Times reported on its Web site that Citigroup Inc. and Wells Fargo & Co. are bidding in a possible emergency takeover of Charlotte, N. C.- based Wachovia.

The Wall Street Journal also listed Spain’s Banco Santander SA as a possible bidder. Both papers cited people familiar with the talks who they did not name.

CitiGroup just bought Wachovia. What a tragedy.

Wachovia will retain its Asset Mgmt Group and Retail Brokerage operations.
That is a saving grace for the folks I know here in Charlotte. Not sure
how the valuation will be for Wachovia stock price going forward, but
it was < $1 this morning.

Speaking of five - that is how many colleges went to in six years before getting a degree.
