The consensus seems to be he didn't make it and I'd have to lean that way myself but I think privately everyone but law enforcement hopes he got away with it.

Some of the original investigating members of law enforcement are actually pretty bitter they haven't solved the case and that Cooper has become a folk hero so I don't think he's gonna get a free pass (if he survived). I wonder if there's a statute of limitation on his crime.
