Have you ever visisted an area of a country b/c of a band?

Tired of discussing the Bunnymen and all the bands that have been influenced by them? This is the place for you.

Have you ever visisted an area of a country b/c of a band?

Have you ever travelled to a country just to see where a band orginated? Have you ever went there too, to explore those areas, document what you explored & then, possibly travelled back there for more exploration? What contribution did that band make which made you curious upon going there?

When I first went to Macclesfield it was b/c of the band, Joy Division. I have other friends who do this same thing too, they travel different parts of the world seeing where bands originated from & explored those areas while they were there. The first time I went to Macclesfield upon getting off the train from Euston Station, just seeing the sign for that town, made me emotional & choke-up. I know this sounds dumb but, that's what happened. Upon arrival & walking around exploring the town, I thought about the band, their lives, families, influences & backgrounds w/in the city. It was just amazing to me to just be where they were & how everything occurred.

That's what I feel when I go to Liverpool but, that whole city in itself is a whole other matter....

Similiarly, many people travel to Manchester b/c of seeing the club, the Salford Lads Club there for reasons about Morrissey's background. The book by Phill Gatenby, "Morrissey's Manchester" was a great guide into touring the city in relation to learning more about Morrissey's background. I did one of the tours by car there & I have photos from some of the places (Salford Lads Club, Morrissey's house on King's Road in Stretford, Coronation Street sign, etc.) Secondly, many people go to Liverpool for obviously reasons about The Beatles but, what about where Erics and Probe Records were?

Do you think it's dumb to travel to places b/c of bands you love? What about getting those photos of the places? Does it seem psychotic & immature? Do you think that the band's members feel as though fans are too pretentious about it all & just want it all to be left alone?

Where have you travelled to visit just b/c of a band's background? What was your trip like?

well, i walked down the street where the cover of ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars was shot.....only because i was nearby. not like it was a mission to do just that. well, it sorta was, but that wasn't why i went to london, is what i meant...

a bunch of us walked down mathew street and saw where eric's used to be, and went in the cathedral where the bunnymen played, stuff like that...barry's $5 tour of liverpool we called it! LOL that was a really fun day! (2nd day of lipa) i'm sure all of us were there that day (on the 'tour') just because we wanted to see famous 'bunny' places. (and to hang out and have a good time)

nothing wrong with that!

i've also taken several friends to CBGB's ...but sadly that's gone now. one or two friends made it before they closed, some didn't. it was sad going there after they were closed.

i don't think there's anything wrong with going to places like this because rock -n-roll has made such an impact on daily life, so there's nothing wrong in wanting to see where so much history has taken place.

if you think about it, it's really no different than going to gettysburg to see where the civil war took place, is it?

it's all a matter of what interests you.

I flew to San Francisco to see the Sisters of Mercy at the Warfield. It was like a 45 minute flight but my one and only trip in first class.

Great show, lots of booze and hot Goth chicks.

But fuck the Sisters of Mercy. Or more specifically Andrew Eldritch. 50.00 plus bucks a ticket nowadays?
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
