The Fountain mentioned in the New Yorker Fashion Supplement

Postby octavia » Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:23 pm

Packaged with this week's New Yorker is a fluff magazine with articles about what's going on in fashion this fall. Their Music section includes tidbits of what they call "fall's most downloadable tunes". The Bunnys got a little mention with this:

"Echo & The Bunnymen have now been reunited for almost as long as they were together in the eighties, and their new album, The Fountain, has the melancholy and swagger of their best work".

How can The Fountain have some of of "Fall's most downloadable tunes" when it isn't even coming out this year? Do they know something we don't know? Unless they actually release it as a downloadable album it's not coming out this year. Awesome if they did do that but I doubt it'll happen.

What does it mean to be "most downloadable"?

Is that New Yorker supplement like People magazine or USA Today magazine that comes with the Sunday paper in some places? I have a feeling they just got wind of the title and jumped on the wagon of namedropping the Bunnymen with no other information. It's nice to see them get mentioned at least.

The new Verve album was the main CD feature in the latest People magazine. I thought for sure there was another band called the Verve or something but there was a big pic of them with Ashcroft and everything.

That was brave of me to post because now I've admitted publicly that I flipped though a People magazine. I just can't get enough of the Brad and Angelina twin stories I guess.

Yes, being a twin, certainly does have its advantages!

The Verve are still around? What? When did their last album come out?

I'd never pay for People, but I'll read it. It usually takes me about 15 minutes.

It came out on Aug 25th. First album in 11 years

The New Music show here in Charlotte on Sunday nights has played a
few songs off the cd. I don't know much of their music, but it sounds OK.

I guess Ashcroft's solo career didn't take off. I'm pretty sure no one in America really cared.

Yea, it's pretty fluff, but it is specifically made to accompany the New Yorker's "style issue" this week. There's some hack articles in there about new wave hairstyles having a resurgence with the teenage crowd (supposedly started by My Chemical Romance). Highlights of the issue are Joan Jett's take on the history of her own style and an excerpt from Nirvana's manager's new novel.

i really like the new single "love is noise". i don't think they will ever get a song like bittersweet symphony again with that much mainstream popularity, but its nice to know they're still out there doing their thing
