Ian's memoir set to publish in 2009

Postby Mr. Brian » Wed Apr 02, 2008 6:37 am

Bunnyman to Transworld

01.04.08 Anna Richardson

Transworld has bought a memoir Ian McCulloch, lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen.

Simon Taylor acquired world rights in the as-yet-untitled memoir from Simon Benham at Mayer Benham, with plans to publish in summer 2009.

"The response in-house to Mac’s material was tremendous: it seems we've more than our fair share of serious Bunnymen fans working here," said Taylor. "And the man himself is a one off, an iconic figure whose passion for words, music, and for his city, is utterly infectious."

Echo and the Bunnymen are arguably the most influential band to have emerged from post-Beatles Liverpool. After nearly three decades together, they continue to write, record and take their music on the road

The title should be something like

"Frustrated Black Soul Singer in a White Man's Undies: My Life in the Fast Lane"
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I hope it's as entertaining as "Rotten," John Lydon's "authorized autobiography"

He's too young for this. Is he doing this because he'll be 50 next year?

Or Jackson's, when he was given drugs for days to help him dodge the Vietnam draft and was running around the yard waiting for a UFO to pick him up while squirting assorted condiments down his pants  It worked and he wasn't drafted!

I just don't like when they call it a "memoir" It makes him seem like a washed up old Hollywood whatever.
They should give it a catchy title like.....................................????

I've got a sinking feeling that the tome will be a self-aggrandizing piece of literary masturbation, recounting his life the way he wants it told, minus the infighting, womanizing and drug abuse.

I think, he, like most people, sees himself as a good person. What other reason is there to write an autobiography other than to present your story as you think it should be told?

Since you seem to know all the awful details, why don't YOU write a book telling us how horrible he is?

I'm sorry. I wasn't aware you were hired as conductor of Ian McCulloch's Spin Train. All aboard.

Seriously, some of the best autobiographical pieces and memoirs I've read have dealt with the author's flaws as well as his/her strengths:

White Line Fever by Lemmy
The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx

I'd be much more impressed if Mac were to write a heartfelt warts-and-all piece, but somehow I don't see it happening, particularly in light of efforts taken to whitewash that other forum.

Suck it up, little man.

Crying? Hardly.
Just waiting for everyone else to get in their shots, as I seem to have struck a nerve with the both of you.

Obviously, the book hasn't yet been penned, but I'd hope it to be more than just a superficial stroll down memory lane. I want to see the dark places his head's been.

If it's just all smartass comments about other rockstars, their haircuts and footwear, it's really all pointless.

[edit: if anybody's wondering - I didn't make up the withahip quote. the post I quoted was deleted by its author while I was composing this post]
