So I went and bought a copy and sat in the pub like a billy-no-mates myself. Thought it apt when Little old wine drinker me came on. Don't think its necessarily as bad as all that. As for the rambling, well they've been out drinking all afternoon, I ramble a bit when I do that - and when I lived in my own I only tended to use a couple of rooms in the house (dining room, where the music was - and the table) and the bedroom ( a chap has needs you know, like sleep and suchlike), though I didn't have any lackeys to bring my shopping for me, though I did have ants and flies. Oh and the kids did bring pressies round for me -and sometimes all their mates because I let them hang out when their mother liked her house clean and tidy all the time. Then he harks back to 82 when the band were in the studio and he goes to the pub for three hours instead, then wonders why he gets the cold shoulder. On the positives, Mr Journo bigs up the new album whilst recognising that long time fans might resent the idea that the soundtrack to their lives was all wrong and that the greatest album ever made didn't really need all those guitars on it but more breathing sounds. Oh and their his songs, not will's.

To me it sounds like he has some sort of PTSD, having known someone close by with it. The way his childhood - his house wall falling down, the mould, his father being away still clearly affects him as he approaches 60... add in 4 decades of booze and drug abuse, no real support network (just enablers) and you are going to end up in a dark place.

At the end of the day

Pissed and "coked up" (Blue bags)

your talk shit and all your demons come home to roost.

This interview should be taken with a pinch of salt.

We can all be reflective about our missed spent youth and lost opportunities.

Mac chooses to live his life that way.

Peasy is too blame the sycophantic Twat , he make money out of Mac and is no friend otherwise he would of pulled mac screaming and Yelling into a better place.

If he continues to denigrate his 80's existence, I may have to look away. Don't want to listen to A Promise and think Ian McCulloch hates his singing on this song. He thinks the lyrics are too poetical. And he thinks the person singing it is an effete twat. KOK is right, all of us regret bits of our youth, but of course Mac being Mac, has to go to the extreme and renounce everything.

Don't be so hard on yourself, kid. You done good. Now, take care of yourself.

Echo and The Bunnymen the class of 78

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….You’re not as fat as you
imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will
look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

All I can say is:

My knees have been knackered since mid 20's,
Got married at 40 and still happy
Plenty of sunscreen today, another hot day out on the bike in SUNNY MANCHESTER \ Cheshire (Get the odd wiff of the smoke coming of Saddleworth Moor)
Would prefer dancing to One Nation Under a Groove when 75

Still haunted by the interview, maybe the truth is we don't have the luxury of waiting until it all blows over. Actions have consequences. It's frustrating, around Meteorites album release there was talk that he had cleaned up and was listening to people who really cared about him again. Sadly, it didn't last. I know there are people that even after all of this would be there to help him get to a higher ground if he wanted. What is heartbreaking is there is no indication he wants to anymore.

The Bunnymen started when he was 19. Literally all his adult life has been lived in the rock and roll lifestyle--and he's nearing 60. How likely is someone going to change after so many years and at this age?

I'm not going to quote it all again here, but thank you for the above KoK, that is beautiful.

It's our only hope...I'll be impressed if this album surfaces in October let alone moving on to an album with all new music in 2019. He's suffering. People said he messed up lyrics in Bristol several times throughout the night. Many more said that something wasn't right. I feel like we're headed for another Glasgow meltdown or worse...What he needs is to go away and take care of himself. I don't think it's likely but that's what we should all want for him...Propping him up on stage isn't working.
