When they do their next album I'm going to insist on being consulted about artwork before going to press

In an exclusive interview, lead singer of Echo and The Bunnymen Ian McCulloch said the reason why the new record had been delayed was because he wasn’t satisfied with the vocals. Says Mac “Authenticity is very important to me, and these songs are some of the greatest songs ever written. If I have to do each word syllable by syllable I will.”

#1 " The new songs are mainly shit...that ratio should solve quality issues"

Door knocks...postman drops aff album

#1 " Here it is....I asked for classic reworkings of classic bunnymen classic songs"

#2 "Well..we asked for reworkings!"
#1 "Classic reworking to not sound like teh original...always hated Laurie Latham's Top 20 mix"

Singing starts

#1 "Who is that singing????"
#2 " No idea...sounds like Barry White singing covers of the Cult"
#1 " Not classic...did we not hear him sing when he signed?"
#2 "Nah...he had a 20 year old hoodie on and we didnt wnat to go near him for the smell"
#1 "Classic odour...Ill call teh management"

Thumbs through phone "Por-cupine management..Liverpool...(calls)...hello Porcupine Management?"
Pete Byrne "Yes thats us"
#1 " About teh Bunnymen album.."
Pete "What? I sacked them years ago...PEASY!!!! What you been up to? This isnt EX on the Beach Toxteth you know!!"
Peasy comes to phone

"Hello"
#1 "This album....is it the Spaceman singing through his helmet on these tracks?"
Peasy "erm....no...its Mac"
#1 " Well...we need it reworking for petrol station sales...the Stars, Ocean and Moon on 45 market is what we are after"
Peasy "shit....ok Ill sort it...will have to re-record"
#1 "CLASSIC!"

Peasy sits in thought...how does he save the situation
He'll call Will

Peasy " Hi Will...about this new album..BMG have rejected it"
Will "What new album??Am I on it??"
Peasy ".....doesnt matter...we'll stick your name on it like the last two..but they dont like the vocals"

but just to cheer you up, here's a bit from the guardian about meteorites from a while back:

McCulloch has described the new album as his most soul-searching and personal to date, but it deviates little from the Bunnymen's eternal template of impenetrably gnomic pronouncements delivered over quasi-epic, exquisitely calibrated guitar riffs.

good luck with that. I decided against it this time for no other reason than I'm a grumpy old git, oh and the jacked up ticket prices - so grumpy tight old git then. Not looking forward to this album at all.

There's nothing like the picture of a nice shiny helmet to sell records.
