Leamington Spa 2nd may

Postby bunnygod1 » Sat May 03, 2014 7:10 am

Opening night of the tour. The bunnymen on excellent form!
nice to hear quite a few new tracks lover's, holy moly, constantinople ,market town I think there was at least one more. Finished with a rousing cutter!
Unfortunately at the beginning of the 2nd encore some dick decided to throw a can of beer at mac, cue offers to fight culprit stage and then a prompt walk off never to be seen again.
shame it ended on a sour note.

Uncanny it's almost like you were there! I don't think the can hit him, ironically it was the dullest crowd I had seen since the last time I went to Leamington Spa

Did miss him. Seems to happen a lot at gigs I have been at - usually the plastic glasses full of beer, at the band and all over everyone else (some say they fill the glasses with piss - but it's certainly beer I have smelt!). Moody strop at one twathouse shit, which of course ruins it for everyone else but I suppose it was the 2nd encore so you'd had most of the set. Nothing changes at Bunnymen gigs it seems.

If someone lobbed a can of beer at me I'd walk off as well....

I wouldn't. I'd pick the beer can up (assuming it was unopened) and then open it in the direction of where it came from to much better effect. Then, I'd walk off while laughing to myself.

A few lads necking cans of stripe during the gig was the problem.
Felt sorry for the couple near me they had been screaming for lips like sugar all night and got a couple of lines.

dont quote me and in no particular order due to the influence of alcohol, not from a can
meteorites,nocturnal me,rescue,holy moses,my kingdon,bedbugs,seven seas,constantinople,silver,never stop,new horizons,all that jazz,lovers, dancing horses,killing moon,cutter,nothing lasts forever about 1 1/2 minutes of lips!
might have missed a couple off  i am sure at least one other person was there who frequents these parts.
edited to show the actual playlist as opposed the drunken one i remembered

Pete, that was me that came down the front at the end. Nice to see you again, albeit briefly.

I was twatted as well, but remember that couple that were begging for lips too....

Mac was on good form and his voice was strong.

There's a setlist here : https://www.facebook.com/groups/161121453925895/

New songs sounded OK, WITH A DRUMMER!!!!!!

Not enough oldies for my tastes in the set, but can't complain too much.

If someone threw a can at me I'd have something to say! It was open and went over the stage, one of the techs was wiping it up! Came on with Meteorites, also did Lovers, Holy Moses, New Horizons, Constantinople from the album. Constantinople was amazing live imo. Few from Ocean Rain Kingdom, Silver, Seven Seas and of course The Killing Moon. No Over The Wall or Zimbo. Mac had been on great form until the idiot threw the can!!

Hi All

Couldn't see set list on Facebook page so best recollections below: (order hopelessly wrong. but I normally get the set list, however last night had to leave early - would you believe kids at McBusted concert at the LG Arena needed picking up FFS)

Meteorites
Nocturnal Me
Seven Seas
Holy Moses
Never Stop
Constantinople
Bed Bugs and Ballyhoo
All That Jazz
Bring on the Dancing Horses
The Cutter
My Kingdom
New Horizons
Lovers on the Run
plus one more from the new album
Encore: Nothing ever lasts forever
Encore 2 - aborted -Lips like Sugar.......

So - we left before the twattish behaviour leading to the band leaving the stage early, which, having seen on YouTube, I fully understand and agree with, so leaving early meant a great night was not ruined (for us) by some dickhead ruining it for all.

So - Mr and Mrs Chunkyhair verdict on the first gig of the tour:

Positive - Mac was on stellar form. Voice great, banter equally superb, witty, chatty and generally engaging with the audience. Vocals on Nocturnal Me were outstanding (from someone who saw them in 1984 that is saying something). New songs were really good - and good to hear so many - they were well received and performed and augers well for release of album. Nay-sayers, please wait till you see them perform the new tracks before writing off the new album...

Negative - I have got to say Will didn't look completely engaged/happy. I have read a lot on the forum about this, and would love to disagree with what I have read, but genuinely, I thought he was going through the motions. That said, I met Will and Gordy before the show and both were as happy as the happiest men in Happyland, so maybe I am misreading things and reading too much into Will's performance based - seriously - on the negativity that pervades this site about a great band.

So - This is Chunkyhair's insight after seeing the Bunnymen in the home town he left 25 years ago - WTF didn't they play there in 1980-87!!!!
