Mac Pre Show Rituals - EXCLUSIVE

Postby wingokenda » Sun Dec 23, 2012 4:41 am

What a great night at Fibbers club in York on Thursday. Seen Mac solo and the Bunnymen numerous times since the early 80's, but can honestly say I've never seen Mac in such an affable mood, laughing and joking with the audience, asking questions and being generally rather charming with everyone. Mac had a bit of a cold, but still played and sang well (see YouTube clips - McCulloch Fibbers), spent the night guzzling a bottle of milk and squirting a bottle of honey into his mouth.

Strangest part to an incredible night was when Mac revealed he'd been watching Eastenders backstage to catch up on who Kat Slater had been shagging in Eastenders !! Apparently he loves 'Easties' but has gone right off Corrie in recent months. How wierd is that !

Thanks for the review, sound like things are on the up. Quite fancy St Helens in February if I can find my way there in the dark. Did he play any solo stuff?

Most of Slideling, a terrific version of Proud to Fall (best I've heard), Pro Patria, Started Candleland but Ian Broudie couldnt remember it, followed by a medley of songs in the style of David Boie (including "..and Soooow this iz Chritmaaars - John Lennon in a David Bowie accent - it was priceless). I requested Kansas but Mac said there was no way he could even begin to remember how it was supposed to go.

I can't tell you how much I'd love to hear a full band play Proud to Fall!!!

I too wish they'd expand the setlist and include some songs from the solo years.

That would be enough incentive to shell out big $$ to return to the UK to witness such an event.

Mac played some Candleland songs with a full band back in 2003 and they were waaaaaay more rockin' and punched up than the studio versions (sorry Jack). I've said it before (many, many times) and I'll say it again, Mac was meant to play guitar.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
