Mac The Mouth

Postby Sick4Tunz » Sat Nov 19, 2011 10:01 pm

Along with early PIL and Nirvana, last night I nearly tripped out listening to the Bunnymen perform at what was identified as the Lomax in Liverpool on May 24, 2002 (although it’s identical to the 2002 release Live in Liverpool. Any explanation for this?). Even while in this state of ecstasy I was still able the ask the question “What has caused Mac to become so gabby between songs in recent years?” Yes, I was listening to a recording that was probably edited to remove all that extra chatter, but that’s not the case with many other bootleg recordings I’ve listened to. Early Mac barely says a word between songs, except for perhaps the song title and “Ta.” Modern day Mac, when he’s in the mood, just runs at the mouth, to the point where I get the impression the band starts up the music just to shut him up. Listen to the Symphony Hall show in Birmingham on September 25, 2011 where it felt like half the show was just idle chatter.

What’s going on? Has Mac lost all inhibitions to express himself, no longer the shy young man who took the stage at Eric’s? Or has he grown so bored with the music that he’s now choosing to entertain himself by provoking comments from the audience?

He also thinks he's funny, which doesn't help.
