Ripeness

Postby withahip » Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:47 pm

Is such a fresh song.

Discuss?
I found a thing
In a bad room
Changed the shape of the world for long enough
Got the boat to
As far as I could afford it to take me
It was far enough

Mature you said
At the wrong time
Broke my aging skin
'Cos age was mine
Had a field day
Smelt like roses
Harvesting my thought
'Cos up was time

When you asked the question
Did you miss the meaning?
When you met your challenge
Did you go out fighting?

We will discover
Ripeness twice over

Sing your salt
Worth its weight
In God gold
Curse its fate

When you asked the question
Did you miss the meaning?
When you met your challenge
Did you go out fighting?

How will we recover
Ripeness when it's over?

I lost something
In a big room
Changed the shape of the world for long enough

When you asked the question
Did you miss the meaning?
When you met your challenge
Did you go out fighting?
When you climbed on top
Did you fall on shadows?
When clambering off
Did you fall on rainbows?...

How will we recover
Ripeness when it's over?

Are you fuel for the fire?

It is absolutely awesome. Sometimes it strays to the top of my favorites list. Just a great great song.

those older lyrics are great, I always liked the wordplay and the changing of the diction of the words

Oops - Yes - Ripeness is great - but I actually meant to post about the title tack from the Porcupine album.

That song is amazing.

I have always loved Crocodiles, Heaven Up Here and the Grey Album. I never gave Porcupine a chance growing up for the stupidest of reasons - the cover. (Could it have been Mac's beard?!??!) You have to remember I was about 14 when I first got into the Bunnymen and something like that could greatly affect how I felt about an album.

I bought the reissue months ago after hearing Jack T talk about its greatness. I feel like I did the first time I heard HUH: something mysterious, strange and wonderful. In a way I am glad it took me over twenty years to truly discover this album. It is a diamond in my room I never realize I had.

Porcupine

There is no comparison
Between things about to happen
Missing the point of our mission
Will we become misshapen?

A change of heart
Will force the veil
Nailed to the door
To all avail

There are no divisions
Between things about to collide
Hitting the floor with our vision
A focus at some point arrives

A change of mind
Will force the veil
To hit the head
And set the sails

A change of skin
Will shed the tail
Hung on the wall
For use again

A change of heart
Will force the veil....
There is no comparison
Between things about to happen

Sick as a pig this pork is mine
I'm pining for the pork of the porcupine
I'd best be on my best behavior
Best behave yourself, you hear?....

Sick as a pig
This pork is mine
Pine for the pork of the porcupine...

I'm beginning to see the light
Beginning to see the light

So I had nothing to do with it? Talk about a conspiracy theory.

And Porcupine (the track) shows Robert Smith how a proper dirge is done and is the best since Mozart's Requiem.

Porcupine is a strange song. I heard it on XM44 and it just dosen't work with all those other synth/pop type songs.

I don't mean this in a bad way, just that it is a different animal.

You are so right! Because it came out by an "80s" band it gets lumped in with the Human League. It has a strange rythm and real insturments and a bellowing singer.
Original.

I LOVE that track! The guiatrs are... [trying to think of a better word than awesome! ] ...fabulous dahling! I used to love how they layered tons of guitars and vocals back in the day. wish they'd bring that style back...
