With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Gad! This is the first time I've noticed the sequins. I remember this photo was included (reproduced) in one of Chris Adams' fanzines, so that would place it in around the mid 90s (?). I think it originally came from some magazine piece on him with the title of him digging for the truth or something just as cliched. It makes me uneasy when I see it.

He looks like a robot who's positronic brain just had a major blowout.

I scrolled down to Davros, mistook him for Mac and thought "This doesn't bode well for the Heaven up Here tour."
Davros is my favourite villain, along with Sylar.

Sylar - I think he is shortly going to become a "reformed" villain on the current series of Heroes, which my guess, will be the last we get of that series on the BBC as they are not willing to buy any more American shows. After that, my fascination with Hayden Claire bear will have to come to an end.

That photo was taken by Chris Buck (http://www.chrisbuck.com/), who used to work for Nerve magazine, a Toronto music freebie.

LW: You say that you don't like rock photos that look like rock photos. What is the most “unrock star” photo you've ever shot?

CB: I find the archetypes of rock photography lame; there’s the colorful high-energy shot or the hang out and look "cool" picture. As someone who is an intense and serious popular music fan, I want more. I think that these musicians and what they do is deeply interesting, so their portraits should be, too. And since you asked, I would guess that my least "rock star photo" of a rock star is the portrait of Ian McCulloch of Echo & The Bunnymen. It seems quiet and sad. He doesn’t look like he’s going to be rocking anyone out anytime soon.

What was the first story or photo you had published in Nerve? Do you feel the story or photo holds up well today?

That Ian McCulloch Eye cover is ironically one of the best Nerve covers that we ever did. It's too bad that that approach--a timely, strong photograph or illustration--didn't become the M.O. for the cover design. Instead, it soon moved, and mostly stayed with, the conventional: "the big story gets the cover." To give Dave and Nancy credit, they often did fun visual things with what they had to work with but as Nerve was an alternative free paper there was little reason not to make the covers as interesting and attractive as possible, the marketplace be damned.

What!!! Not content with plastering IdiotVision logo's over all their digital channels including the supposedly high quality picture of BBC HD (thanks, but i'd rather watch standard definition than have it spoiled with a bug) they get rid of the one show that justified their extortionate licence fee!?
Well in that case I'm not paying and if they fine me they'll still be out of pocket by the time I've burnt broadcasting house down (I consider arson a form of alternative politics) though I might reconsider if they broadcast some of my rock videos.

In any case, I thought the sun was supposed to shine out of Mac's ass, not his head.

Not a dead cert, but I think it was announced (and not mentioned much) that they were cutting back on US shows at the same time they said about scrapping BBC6 Music and the Asian Network.

Actually, if I recall, the current series of Heroes wasn't going to be bought either, largely due to dwindling viewing figures. They changed their mind on that, but I don't think they will buy the next series, if there is one. Much better to invest their money in Celebrity Ballroom Dancing, Total Wipeout, Eastenders and chav wank like that. Of course, the Beeb will say that they already have their homegrown sci-fi, Dr Who. My answer to that would be great, if you like Cheese in Space, or alternatively, with the forthcoming new series, Hollyoaks in Space. Having said that, it might be that there isn't a fifth series of Heroes per se. It's not been attracting enough viewers Stateside for NBC to commission another series.

Too late. They have already chosen the cast and filmed it in Wales. Didn't you see it advertised on TV recently?

That looks even better than "Coupon: The Movie"
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
