Hiring the Bunnymen?

Postby Dr Evil » Mon Feb 08, 2010 8:23 am

How much do the Bunnymen cost to hire? On the principal that "he who pays the piper calls the tune", would this be one way to get a decent setlist at last? Perhaps we could all contribute according to how much we wanted a particular tune and then hire a small venue for a "hardcore" Bunnymen concert without any filler songs.
Despite the limitations of "The Fountain" album, the band still seemed to have life left in them on "Later with Jools Holland" and I wonder if they are still up to performing lost classics such as "No Dark Things" -and "Flaming Red" of course. Just how many shows are up to their best standard in the past, in percentage terms? Or are they "Echo and the Unreliable Men" dooming any such project from the start?
Also, how much did Will or Les get paid for their Wild Swans appearance?
Right now I am listening to "Razors Edge" and "In Bluer Skies."
Why do they avoid playing their best material live?

Well I'm out. You'd have band fees, hiring a suitable venue for both American, UK and any other fans from around the world on VT.com or BOF, possible plane fees... and then the gig might not suit everyone. People may differ on choice of songs for the setlist - Bunnyboy would want "Love In Veins" played as he thinks it would have been a major hit for the Bunnymen if they'd recorded it (that song's addition alone to the "people's choice" of setlist would stop me going). Some of us would want lots of Electrafixion songs added. Mac would want some solo stuff added as well and wouldn't want to do "Flaming Red" so you'd have to hire Noel Burke at extra expense. Others would want Les to come out of retirement, so you'd have to make it financially worth his while rejoining the Bunnymen for the one-off for the fans. Would probably turn into a mass riot between all the Bunnymen members and ex-members, VT fans and BOF fans. It'd be a blood bath.

The more simplier answer would have been for the band to play some dates where they had deviated from the chicken in the basket setlist. Sadly, that has fallen on deaf ears over the years, other than doing Ocean Rain in its full entirety, and they have kind of missed an opportunity there.
