Melbourne Cancelled (January 30)

The Laneway Festival has lost one of its headliners. Echo & The Bunnymen have been taken off the bill after singer Ian McCulloch missed the flight from London.

Echo & The Bunnymen were due to play at the Melbourne Festival at 6pm ahead of The Dirty Three and Florence and the Machine and after Sarah Blasko and Mumford & Sons.

A statement from Laneway reads, 'The Laneway Festival regrets that Echo & the Bunnymen are no longer to play the Melbourne Laneway Festival tomorrow. Lead singer Ian McCulloch, who was due to arrive in Melbourne tonight, has missed his flight from London and won't make it to Australia in time for the scheduled performance. At this stage, all other performances are due to go ahead as planned'.

A replacement will be announced shortly but fans coming along especially to see Echo & The Bunnymen can apply for a refund.

whatever about missing a flight -- (that happens to lots of people) but it is bad tour planning to be in a position that if a flight is missed then a gig is cancelled .in our work for any trips that involve long haul flights you have to arrive 1 day before the meeting...

just bad planning

Actually in my 43 years I've never missed a flight. and am a frequent flyer......

Mac should maybe get his lazy arse out of bed earlier and get to the airport on time, fans in Melbourne are well within their rights to be well peeved off.........

Poor show Mac, treating the fans with contempt.......

I think "missed the flight" is a euphemism for "can't be bothered."

Plus, while we are willing to blame Ian for "missing the flight" because we know he's capable of doing such a thing and we all want to think the worst, I have to believe the entire band failed to make the trip. When they flew over here for All Points West (August 2009) they all made the flight together. Webmaster Pete posted tweet photos of them at Heathrow. (When I speak of them, I'm essentially referring to Ian and Will.) So, historically they do travel together and when they need someone to blame for not showing up, he takes the bullet.

Plus, there's this article. Sounds like the Laneway Festival has its problems. Regardless, if they commit to performing, they really should make an effort.

perhaps Mac needs to be serenaded with that old Girl Scout ditty:

Whenever you make a promise, consider well its importance;
And when made, engrave it upon your heart

altho, if the festival has had problems, maybe the check bounced and the whole band just said the hell with it ...

hope the U.S. tour goes forth OK.

He's missed flights before, on US tours past. He's also been missing when it was time for the bus to head to the next city.

'member that whole thing I said about his indulgences on the road?

not sayin' that's why he 'missed his flight', but...

A good manager would be certain to MAKE a singer get to his commitments, especially ones who have known the subject for so long...

Did the rest of the band really get on a flight to Australia without him? Just wondering, where are the Bunnymen now? It would be awesome if Will kept up with the Fotolog or wrote a blog and could post uncensored videos...then we'd know the real truth.

From BOF. Sounds like he got married, had a baby or both. GAK.

Ian didnt make the plane due to a personal matter, he will (is) flying out to start the dates from Sydney. All the rest of the band have been lapping up the sun and loving Sydney.

There will be a official press release coming from Ian very soon...

Dont panic he is in very good health..

They're going to split. I can feel it coming. I'm starting to agree with Cheesy, it's about time they did.
