spiritual home

How wonderful to discover this forum.
Finding this forum is like finding my spiritual home - other people who can't let go of the 80's.

Reading other posts I totally agree with you on the strong views of others about the bunnymen.

Of course we could all manage them better. What an easy gig.

They should listen to what you all are saying - you have all the answers and no experience in the music business.

It is so dissappointing that the bunnymen being the biggest influence of huge bands like the Killers and Coldplay still release new material and are still being creative when all we really want is for them to replicate Crocodiles & Ocean Rain.

I mean how dare they!

We want Mac to stay 25 so we aren't reminded that we too are getting old.

Doesn't he realise that by growing as an artist and pursuing solo efforts we are going to bring him down for it as we have nothing better to do than bitch and point the finger every time he reminds us that he too is mortal.
He must be the only person on earth who struggles with addiction - what a tool.

God why can't time stand still and les & pete be credited for everything?

How dare Mac split songs 4 ways when he didn't have to so they are credited and made money.

what a prick!

Just because we dont know the basic structure of how songs are split lets just put it all down to the fact that Les & pete are the geniuses and Mac isn't.
Les wrote some pretty timeless lyrics there.

Anyway great forum really glad you all exist out there.

Long live the 80's!

Interesting article but I doubt that it's been written by the management team, as it refers to Macs "addictions" which is something they would never bring up...... Also i would very much doubt any of them would be so dismissive of both Pete and Les....

Apart from that I actually agree with quite a lot of it, mind you...............

Les, Will and Pete may not have written a single lyric, but they certainly did write their parts. And sometimes they kicked off a song. Les wrote the bassline for Bedbugs and Ballyhoo and that turned into the song. Their songs often came from jamming together. Mac wasn't the Bunnymen. All of this is information that can be found among articles, interviews, box sets and books. Here's more shit I didn't write but is also readily fucking available on the internet.

Anyone know how things worked with Jake Brockman? Did he contribute keyboard parts and just not get credit? Pete played many instruments--did he work out some of those keyboard parts? Will picked up playing keyboard and played harpsichord on a few songs...Also Shankar perhaps should have been credited for the work he did on Porcupine, but wasn't. I'd like to know more about how that all worked out. Adam Peters was credited for doing string arrangements.

2. How to Decide Who Gets Songwriting Credits

A songwriting copyright is awarded to those who jointly contributed to the song's structure, chord progressions, and lyrics. This can be anyone, even the members of the rhythm section (in many songs -- especially in rock, pop, and dance music -- a bass or drum part is so integral to the song that it becomes as important as the melody). The best way to decide:

* the members of the band determine who wrote the songs, or
* throw out traditional rules and share equally (or by some other formula) in all band-written tunes.

Not Peasy. He can't spell for shit. No Hoper did put a lot of effort into that though. I'm thinking it's more likely Peter Byrne (again). Remember a while back when he popped in as "The Bear"?

Either that, or it's Chandler Bing from "Friends". Could you BE more sarcastic?

Oh, and No Hoper, if you're reading this... Coldplay can eat a dick. I know you were "manager" of the twat that produced their first couple albums, so you have to defend them. However, Hugely Successful does not equal Hugely Talented. As a point of reference, see "Spears, Britney"

Coldplay are shite. End of story. Nothing to rejoice any associations with them. They reckon that half a dozen other bands that sound nothing like them are an influence. Not just that but Coldplay ended up leading to a plethora of mini-me Coldplays afterwards and the worst crime of all, they influenced the chosen music direction of the reunited, mature, ever so reflective, all-booted and suited Take That. The evidence against Coldplay for crimes against music is mounting m'lord.

The Killers get a get out of jail free pass, as they are not nearly as irritating.

That reminds me of the lyrics to Death To All But Metal by Steel Panther:

"Alright!
Yeah!
C-c-come on!

Fuck the Goo Goo Dolls, they can suck my balls
They look like the dogs that hang out at the mall

Eminem can suck it, so can Dr. Dre
They can suck each other just because they're gay
They can suck a dick, they can lick a sack
Everybody shout, "Heavy metal's back!"

Death to all but metal
Death to all but metal
Death to all but metal"

Now that's class!
And you know that I'll pick up
Every time you call
Just to thank you one more time

I say good for him. It's about time VT attracted agents provocateurs, and it can't be easy trying to pull that off in this environment. Let's give him a few days to settle into it before we pass judgement.

I think Reverberation proved once and for all that the Bunnymen were much, much more than just Mac. He has done some great post-reformation songs but smoking really is doing him in as a singer and on this forum people tell the painful truth.

I also say that the 1980s can eat a dick. To semi quote Bjørge Lillelien. Kajagoogoo, Haircut 100, ZX Spectrum computers, Sir John Knott, Neil Kinnock, Lady Diana. Maggie Thatcher can you hear me? Your years took hell of a beating.
