"I've just got back from the XFM show at the academy tonight and the Bunnymen were a complete disgrace. Well, I say the Bunnymen, but I really mean Mac. Forgetting the words, singing out of tune, constantly telling the band to 'ssshh' (ie slow it down), rambling on, even forcing the band to abort The Cutter(!?!?) half way through. It was so embarassing it was painful. I was down the front and everyone around us couldn't believe what they were watching. A chance to win over a new, younger audeince couldn't have gone any worse.

It was just unacceptable, and downright pathetic"

I think Mac is on a mission of self destruct.

The bunnymen product cannot afford to be inefficient.

Get over yourselves! What's the point of saying how bad the band is? It won't change anything.

I just don't get you people.

You're right, let's just accept that the once magnificent Bunnymen are now a mediocre shadow of their former selves, how dare we complain.

Isn't this reply supposed to go on the BOF?

Wow, you mean the BOF didn't scratch that whole thread right away? They are getting slack on the "spam".

I really wish my Mac Goes to Rehab dream would come true.

I notice on BOF that you still get people reviewing the The Fountrain with the words "I don't know why it has such negative reviews". Still don't get that as generally it hasn't been that negatively reviewed (look at amazon for example 21 reviews with only a few saying it's piss poor). In my book it's been well received even if personally and a few others didn't think much to it. Too many people like li'l Red get on their defensive high horses when it comes to the Bunnymen, even if they put on a really poor show live. Take a chill pill.

There are performers who do each show--no matter how small--with dignity, grace and professionalism. I once toured with a musical where we only had 7 people in the audience--the other performers decided they didn't care and it was really upsetting to me. I saw that last night with JR Richard who has a truly amazing voice. He performed a great show in an "intimate" venue with a small audience of about 150 people. He used to be in Dishwalla with American Top 40 hits. Or he could do a crap job because he's not as big as he once was, gets drunk before shows, etc. It's one thing to do everything you can to do a great show and not completely succeed and another entirely to just do a crap job.

JR Richards is succeeding at that. Mac is not. I think that's part of why so many of us "long for the old days" when Mac was hungry for success and worked at it. If he went out of tune a little or cracked, so what, it was forgivable because of the sincerity behind it. I think that's also part of why we dig Wild Swans so much over here--it may not be perfect, but it's so damn sincere--at least that's how it is for me.
