Spin Magazine article pdf

Postby In The Margins » Wed Nov 19, 2008 10:40 pm

Typical Spin Magazine article. Lots of fluff, not much substance, but nice to see them getting some press.

Yet, the retrospective treatment (again and again) gets tiresome.

Considering it is Spin magazine the article is not half bad. And the Glasvegas dude is right. The Bunnymen could just be touring the oldies circuit with no material and make a very comfortable living but they are still putting new stuff out there and asking more of themselves than a lot of other people in their position. I think they could push a little harder but sometimes I should be a little more grateful.

Will the new album ever see the light of day?Does twiddling mean Mac re-recording his vocals because they sounded very raspy on the two songs which we have heard?More OR gigs next year means more delays.....the material will be years old when its released.

it'll be on the next boxset and spattered across the next set of rereleases.

or some of the songs will be redone/re-recorded and be on a totally different new album released in about a year. I was hoping they would re-record the vocals given the "new" voice. I don't think the album (as presently constructed) will see the light of day. If it was so good, it would already have been released. The two songs I've heard were average. A few have heard "The Fountain" and have proclaimed it to be the second coming. But these ones would say that regardless of the quality.

Sadly that's not what pays the bills.

"They became just another rock band when they got a real drummer"

I guess they should have gone for the one hit, novelty act route.

Fucking Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Give me a break.

Didn't Will say in a recent interview that the songs were all Mac's and he just went in and did his thing over the top of them?

i rather liked the guitars on think i need it too (the studio one we heard on BBC radio) - the live version still sounds kinda average bunnymen to me. but i'm looking forward to hearing the whole album.

i really hope it isn't another WAYGDWYLWTFBBQ.

i'm trying to stay optimistic...

Based on the YouTube videos I thought "Epic" sounded way better than "Think I Need It Too"

well, pinching a bit of jonny others interview (would link it but they have one of those smartarse web pages, but if you are keen its on www.indieoma.com) puts it in context. This is from sept last year.

ME: You’ve said before that of the post comeback albums Evergreen was a joint effort, What Are You Going To Do With Your Life? was more Ian McCulloch’s baby and Flowers was more you. A lot of people think that the most recent album, Siberia was your best since Evergreen…

WS: Yeah, well Siberia was more of a joint effort again. We are definitely at our best when we work together.

ME: So is the new one similarly collaborative?

WS: (sigh) Not really. The new one is probably a bit more Mac than me again.

ME: Oh dear. So are you not too happy?

WS: Well, I’ve done some really nice guitars on this one and it’s a lot, lot better than What Are You Going To Do With Your Life. But I don’t think I’ve ever made an album I’m really happy with.

ME: Ha-ha.

WS: You can never really achieve musically. You do what you can, you spend ages in the studio and then it still doesn’t sound right.

ME: That’s a bit depressing

WS: Maybe it is. I think I’ve probably been depressed all me life.
