I don't want to shag any of them. I know that must come as a surprise Jooooolian Cope. But really, I've been coping fine without him for years.

Be glad you didn't. If you had, you'd have been one of the stars of a chapter in "Head-On."

I would have been "The Goody Two Shoes" or "The Christian". Or perhaps since Courtney Love was "the adolescent" I would have been "the child" since I am waaaaaay younger than Courtney.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)

Just as real as Scouser's scenario, if you will. Hence my "jocular" reply to Scouser.
Good work on wordplay btw, I like it. Fresh, punchy, an' that. But not too blue.

The reworked versions on World Shut Your Mouth (first Cope solo album) of Metramil Vavin and Pussyface are nowhere near as good as the Teardrops version (stand up Dave Balfe).

Also agree about Ouch Monkeys - its outstanding.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser wrote:All joking aside. The Bunnymen will probably sell more or less the same amount of albums no matter they put out, The Fountrain hardly set the charts on fire. So why not do something new? Try some new sounds? Challenge the audience?

One reason and one reason only - Mac.

As for the lost third Teardrops album - do you mean "Everybody Wants To Shag The Teardrop Explodes" that came out about 10 years after they split (and now you cant get)? The one that starts with Ouch Monkeys. Now that did push the boundaries...

I've been saying pretty much the same thing, but I think the Bunnymen would actually sell more albums if they decided to try something more creative/interesting/experimental. Why not try it instead of regurgitating the same lyrics and music over and over again? As great as Will is as a musician, even he is guilty at times of regurgitating the same little guitar riffs and sounds (although part of that is probably because he's just adding little riffs on a song that Ian wrote).

I'll say it again but hardly anyone under 30 is going to buy The Fountain. If management, the band or whoever thinks that then they are kidding themselves. There's too many other bands out there making more interesting or creative music right now. Even if most of those bands aren't really that good.

The problem the Bunnymen (well, Mac in particular) have is that for every person that thinks like you or I there is a Dave Smith who will blindly buy whatever they put out and then slavishly toddle all over the country to half arsed gigs and then post about how great they are. Mac then thinks - "hey, they love all this shit and I dont really need to put on much of a show to keep these Bozo's happy as long as we throw in the odd orchestra now and again. Will, put down that Pot Noodle and get back to shining my shoes bitch".

And therein lies the issue - lazy, unquestioning fans = lazy, unquestioning band.

An Eternity Turns:

"Look Ma, it's me with no hands on the wheel"

Forgotten Fields:

"It's look ma no hands on the steering wheel"

Actually, I have just thought of original lyrics for a chorus of a song for the next album that currently has the working title "It's all Bollocks".

The moon and the stars will shine for you
They might even shine for me too
Hey on my neck I have got an almighty itch
Will, put down that Pot Noodle and get back to shining my shoes bitch
Down down
Down down
Down down
Down

Dave Smith will be on Amazon after reading that, salivating at pre-ordering another Bunnymen "classic"

This is an excerpt from the demo tape Mac gave me before I was sacked from the follow up to The Fountrain...

(Intro - twangy guitar)

(Drum machine plods along a mid tempo beat)

I saw the leaves on the trees going
brown
brown
brown

The fish in the pond swam around and around

Got up, went down without making a sound
The iceage of normal was found

Chorus

Its to hard when your cold and allllllllllllllllone
Im trying to find common soul
Eating and drinking the cold
The iceage of love will unfold

Dreams with an end going
round
round
round

The fire in the grate burning down

Left all my dreams on the shelf
The iceage of normal bereft

Its to hard when your cold and allllllllllllllllone
Im trying to find common soul
Eating and drinking the cold
The iceage of love will unfold

(Half arsed guitar solo)

(plodding sequenced piano)

Repeat 1st verse

Its to hard when your cold and allllllllllllllllone
Im trying to find common soul
Eating and drinking the cold
The iceage of love will unfold

Ad Lib to fade

Just to prove Mac isnt a one trick pony I also heard the slower tempo ballad option -

To The Fallen

(Solo Piano - no sign of Will)

You walked in the sea of ridicule
The taunts of days at public school
The sky rang true its all we lose
Im dreaming of spires after you

Chorus

Its dark at night without you
Pushing the boundaries of cool
Im finding my feet after days in the snow
All my dreams have gone South with the sun

Days mending boats in the cold of the day
Your beautific smile melted cynicsm away
No ego, no rage, no sense of delay
I left you alone on the stage

Repeat Chorus

My rock, my staff, my crutch in a way
You loyalty deserving of pay
My rage at the loss of the crown I wore in the day
Is vented on you everyday

(Synth strings swelling to climax)

Repeat Chorus
