I like Rust except the chorus is waaaaay too cheesy. The verses come across as very heartfelt though.

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I'd never heard it before Mr Sparkle. But by the power of youtubes, by jove you are right. Does sound better, but missing that lovely guitar bit in the chorus that reminds me of glitter. Maybe Mac should have reworked more of his old solo for the Bunnymen, there was some stuff that might have worked. Nobody would have known.

I disagree...."Ribbons & Chains" music is too damn happy for the lyrics. "Rust" is slower, and Mac sounds like he's actually hearbroken, as if he's trying not to cry. "Rust" is a better title too. "Ribbons & Chains"? Wtf is that?? A bicycle birthday party for little girls in pigtails?

"Birdy" became "Lost on You".

The Ribbons and Chains line and chorus have been re-worked a few times in different songs:

Fools Like Us:

Ribbons and chains
Ribbons and chains
Tie us together
And keep us apart

Rust:

I can feel the stars shooting through my heart like rain
Leaving all the scars where the pleasure turns to pain
Point me in the light of a bright and shining right direction
And then take me home again

Ribbons and Chains:

I can feel the stars shooting through my heart like rain
The ribbons leave the scars turning all the pleasure into pain
Point me in the light of a bright and shining right direction
And then take me back home again

yes it is! Lost On You is a faster version of Birdy. Listening to Birdy now and it seems to be word for word the same song.

I think musicians do this all the time though. It's not like anyone really ever heard the solo b-sides Birdy or Ribbons & Chains anyway.

I haven't heard Birdy, but then I never liked Lost On You because of the way it was mixed (Will's guitar namely). There was other better solo stuff (mostly off Mysterio) I was thinking of would have sounded okay as Bunnymen songs that I mentioned on a previous thread. I'm putting my Simon Cowell trousers on again here I think.

Be warned, it may cause long-term damage to your testicles.

Is Ghost married? Then it's too late.

Pants are fine, but for the love of God, don't wear it with a black v-neck t shirt.

[s]Okay so the trousers are sorted, although my voice seems to be a little high now, plus a black v-neck t-shirt. I haven't got that on yet, so that's not necessarily a definite part of the outfit. What style of bra would you recommend to enable me to complete the authentic Simon Cowell look? I don't think that my bust size is quite as big though. [/s]

That's another solo Mac song that I prefer over the newer version. I think Mac lost whatever edge he had left around the time he did those solo songs. His B-sides were usually better than a lot of his album stuff, IMO.

Will's little riffs in the song is what I like more in the Bunnymen version. Gotta agree with BF about the chorus. A little too cheesy and over the top. Song sounds better live without the overdone production.
