electrabunny wrote:Yeah - the fans have been inquiring for so long about details on the new album and it was treated like such a secret! There is a link to this article on the main page, but I find it odd that the news of the album name and producer wasn't news in itself prior to this article being printed.

And its a newspaper that provides the news, not even a music magazine. Besides giving us the name of the album, release dates of the single and producer would have hardly destroyed The Sunday Mail's "scoop" (if you want to call it that) especially given that the article's main theme was dated information. Mac's collaboration with Coldplay on Rush of Blood is old hat, including that bit on silly dances.

Worried of Wolverhampton:

-'The Fountain'- non-descript name
-Producer McCloughlin-this is the guy that persuaded Mac to do the awful Fame Academy appearance.Expect the soul of Will's guitars to be ripped apart.A producer not reknowned for pysch classics.Plenty of acoustic backing and crooning to come.Mac's best balladry friend.Oh dear.
-The single-sounded bad at Xmas with Mac by numbers lyrics
-Coldplay-really this is getting very, very tiresome
-Mac's bullshit-another greatest album since OR.Come on.
-The Bunnymen 'rock'-this means more midpaced three chord songs we've heard before.
-no official tour for the album? With the Hi-Vis gigs at RH and Liverpool can they really go out before those dates and expect the same fans to pay again?

Hope I'm wrong guys but.........not sounding good is it?

Can I just say I quite like The Fountain as a title.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Yeah I also like The Fountain as a title. But the producer... hmm... he does has vast experience of writing Top 10 hit singles though.... through the likes of Blue, Ronan Keating, Westlife, Busted, Joss Stone, Cliff Richard and Billie Piper. He also has a previous working relationship with Simon Cowell.

I look forward to Mac and Will doing funky coreagraphed dance moves in the forthcoming video to "Think I Needed Two" as the Bunnymen reinvent themselves as an ageing boy band. Future concerts will be magical affairs, featuring screaming teenage girls accompanied by their queenie male friends and their mums as Mac, suited in a glamourous silver overcoat and diamond encrusted shades, belts out "The Cutter" to remind people of past glories. Specially stage-managed pyrotechnic special effects will signify the return to tracks off the new album and later for the encore, the lights will dim as Mac sings an acapella set of Bunnymen ballads with the band seated on leather stools close to the audience. Fearne Cotton will feature as the night's host, "bigging it up for the Bunnymen".

A photo was recently secretly taken of a practice session for the RAH gig in September.

Ok.......................

Let's make one thing clear, you will not meet a bigger fan of The Bunnymen as John, and yes I do know him...... John was a Bunnymen fan before a hell of a lot of the people on this forum had ever heard the name Bunnymen. You may not like the bands he has worked with, but by god they have been successful, and I can reassure you that no way would he dilute Will's guitar sound as he loves the mans playing....

So stop beinf pessimistic at least wait till you hear the album before damning it and the choice of producer ......

Jimbo.....

P.S. ....... John is also a huge Celtic fan which is ok by me lol.......

Oh c'mon most of the banter has been light hearted again, apart from the usual suspects. Nobody doubts that he'll do a professional job of producing it. I mean that's his job. It just seems a rather odd choice given the stuff he has worked on and after the use of Hugh Jones on the last album. And yes, he has been successful, but successful at producing or writing for generally manufactured, controlled pretty boy bands that have had the music industry throwing money to ensure that children buy their music. The same could be said of Stock, Aitken and Waterman or even Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in the 80s as a US comparison. But I don't see either of these producers in the sleeve note credits of previous Bunnymen albums or any band that is considered to be alternative or indie. How would you have felt if your favourite band had been produced by one of those producers back then? Would you be so defensive?

By the way, a friend of a friend was a Bunnymen fan right from the start. Does that mean he has more right than anyone, anywhere to pass judgement? I'll try and get him on here then.

If there is no discussion and the album can be judged at least on the strength of two songs, including one which has been selected as the first single, can someone tell me what is the point of this forum? I look forward to the new album, but have my doubts. Hopefully, I'll be proved wrong.

I find it more troubling that Peter Allen has started referring to himself in the third person and he had a hand in picking the album name.

I'm not familiar with this producer fellow's work so I'll wait until I hear the album to pass judgment. Of course, we have no idea when the album will be released.....

It will be released after a 12 week BBC programme called "What are you going to do with your life?" hosted by Graham Norton and featuring John Barrowman, Denise Van Outen and some old theatre hack who likes looking at young boys (with vocal coaches David and Carry Grant on hand with advice).

Each week 12 potential bass players compete for the chance to join 80's legends Echo & The Bunnymen and perform live in front of thousands at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Week by week the search is whittled down to one lucky contestant who will earn the right to walk onstage with the mighty Bunnymen and perform bass guitar on their comeback single "Desperation" (b sides - "Say Goodbye To Credibility Folks", "Where do I sign?" and the theme from the new Nescafe advert).

I am a close personal friend of Dave Smith and he supports Wolves.

Well in that case, let's start complaining about the next album after this one. I mean, why wait?
