I'm seeing them for the 2nd time tomorrow night & I'm really stoked...I think they are much much better than Bon Jovi but, I guess I'm not a "typical" Joiseeeee-Grrrrl then.. LOL

Yes, the Smithereens are cool. Speaking of Joiseeeee, I also like the Bongos and the Dbs, although the Dbs might be from NY. Most artists from NJ ( usually) would rather say they're from NYC when they're really across the river.
I used to love going to Maxwell's in Hoboken in the 80's to see well known artists who played incognito under false names and also upcoming artists. It wasn't far from the place where Mac performed his disastrous tribute to Sinatra.

Congrats on the Weird NJ. magazine article! That's a cool magazine!

I remember seeing them play out on a pier in NYC and it started raining. Lightning knocked the guitar right out of Joe Strummer's hands yet the band didn't want to stop playing. The concert was stopped though at that point.
Was anyone else at that show? It had to be between 82 and 84, I forget.

I wasn't there, although I was usually in the neighborhood ( Washington Street, etc.) frequently at other clubs.
Supposedly he got sloshed, bombed, three sheets to the wind, and made a complete fool out of himself singing at a club/rest.. This was when he had gone solo, if I remember correctly. I think it's in Chris Adam's book? I don't remember if that's where I read it. We need a Bunnymen EXPERT to tell the full story.

I'm reading this fiction murder mystery right now that takes place in England around the time of the Manson murders in L.A. and includes all these bands like Led Zep, Pink Floyd and a fictitious group called the Mad Hatters. Funny thing is, there's a character called Chris Adams.

Quite a common name but your imagination!

I'm convinced Mac thinks he will be the next FS - perhaps not then!

Nice one, IJ.

Trying to think of Mac in army, mafia, and eating Pizza.

No, I don't think so.

Why did you stop going?

If hendrix had drunk tea, he wouldn't have been the same!![/left]

I don't know what they mean when they say that about Hendrix. If they mean Hendrix was weird, then Mac could have gotten by on just tea too.

I stopped going because it was the 90s and the music was changing. Pavement (1992), etc.

Sorry. I see Mac was saying that about himself and other artists needing more than tea to be creative, I guess. I don't think he ever needed anything stronger imo.

Shit on the pavement.

Mac needs a bit more than tea, methinks.

Saturday, I attended a four-year wait gig of The Cure's.
They played for 3 hours and 10 minutes (yes, I timed it); FOUR encores. Robert SMILED & sung at the crowds, happily. 65 days of Static opened for them, very clever band. No singer but, all computerized music. This is something America needs to open itself more too, different styles of music. Thank God for the UK to be whom they are by opening minds to things instead of stead-fast, boring ideas we have here in America. That's probably one main reason I want to die in the UK, individuality, expressionism & idealism.

Out of all of the times I've seen The Cure, this was 2nd place....I'm very happy to have seen them in Philly again too....I will ALWAYS love them b/c of their unique individual style. Tour program was $15, it even included a discography which is helpful for one completing his/her music library on The Cure's collection.

To anyone going to see them soon, you're in for a real great treat. Have a blast.

Sunday, (meaning duh, last night...), I saw the Gin Blossoms w/ the Scott Harris Project. Pretty cool. Robin totally changed his image. :) Nice fast-paced gig w/ people jamming too, on the dance floor (not me though, wouldn't want to cause an Earthquake).

I got a couple of underground punk bands, locally lined-up. One gig I'm looking forward too, is w/ a couple of work colleagues in Chicago, we're seeing a punkish-type of band that's been around a while but, in hiding...lol

I'm hoping to see Steve Winwood in June. He's so talented and has such a great voice.

Did anyone recently catch him with Eric Clapton?
