Please let us be wrong. Please?

Siberia could have been the album to rival the first four albums.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Of the post reformation albums Evergreen is the best. Been listening to that in the car. Really love To Young To Kneel and Empire State Halo, why they never played those live beats me, love Will's guitars and Mac's voice fits the sound.

Siberia is also a cracker, whilst not having any stand out tracks, In The Margins the one exception, works as a cohesive unit, if you ditch the rubbish What If We Are, or whatever it's called from the end.

Empire State Halo is the best post-Ocean Rain Bunnymen track.

That and In The Margins. Both incredible songs, both hugely underrated.

Hope the recent news that all is well in Bunnymen camp and that Ian is looking after himself means that the new album will be good (if not great)....

Certainly seems to have been a change (as I said, they were great supporting Primal Scream and Ian's voice was sounding good and he looked like he had been taking care of himself too, and Jimbo reports that they were
good at Glasgow gig)....

Here's hoping and keeping Bunny ears crossed.

Shaz
Even god has to soundcheck sometimes

dunno how i missed this - apart from reading MOJO from the back to the front. 'what goes on' section - MAC and Youth. can't be arsed typing it all but

McCulloch is currently making the bunnymen's first album since 2009s The Fountrain, with Youth, Killing Joke bassist, Maccca ambient sidekick ad vibe-orientated producer. Link up put down to macs new manager Dave Bianchi who also 'nudged' mac to cleaning up his lifestyle. Mentions the work on the union chapel recordings, the new bunnymen album is the main focus.

"On the basis of four 'synthesiser heavy early mixes' - heavily chorussed 'holy moses' about god waking up, 'this is a breakdown' (apparently the lyrics are a lot rawer (again), Explosions and Hope in Me (alot more ethereal). Still waiting 'further overdubs from Will Sergeant'."

Quotes - "the vibe between me and will is so much better (journo notes that mac has recently been claiming sole responsibility for their highest achievements), we're starting to enjoy it again rather than worrying about who's done what"
"Its shaping up to be one of our best albums" - wouldn't be the same without that though shows a certain nmaturity I'd say

"I feel miles healthier, i'm probably still as fucked as ever but it just doesn't show as much"

Okay that will be a couple of mid-tempo "rock" tunes with wacky titles to make you think they are something special, a couple of Coldplay-esque tunes that will be instantly forgettable after the first listen to disappear somewhere into the dark recesses of your computer's hard drive straight after, with the rest of this classic album comprising acoustic ballads. And everyone will say it's a slowburner as I will find out as I set fire to the CD cover in disgust, being forced to blow on it repeatedly to try and make it burn quicker. Can't wait.

The telling bit for me is " waiting 'further overdubs from Will Sergeant'."

So can I conclude that Mac has written all the songs and Will is just playing guitar over them in a valiant effort to make them sound vaguely Bunnymen-ish?

As Ghostie says - can't wait!

well its not a million miles away from the album with the boy band producer is it, i.e., write it, record it and sprinkle fairy dust on it. but its a bloke from killing joke so you'd think it might have some positive influence. having said that i've no idea what he's done in the last twenty years. I like the 'ambient sidekick' bit - hmm, so mac couldn't find another of those anywhere nearer to home. I'll be happy to wait and see. I expect it'll be a fairly long wait. And anyway will seems happy striding out on his own, perhaps he's not bothered.
