Echo & The Bunnymen
What is your most memorable summer festival show, either as a fan or performer?
Ian McCulloch: I’ve never been to a festival, unless we’ve played. I don’t like crowds much. I’m quite shy. But one of the best things I can remember is when I saw Ron Sexsmith in a tent at T in the Park six years ago. His voice was brilliant. I also saw James Brown three months before he died. It was a mad bill with Hot Chocolate.
Wow, I love Hot Chocolate. They still play?
I think [frontman] Errol Brown did his last show in Liverpool a year or so ago.
Girl Talk uses a great Hot Chocolate sample on his latest album. Do you know Girl Talk?
No, I don’t think so. Hot Chocolate was unbelievable. If they would have been American, they would have been considered one of the best.

Are they trying to look like they are out of the French Revolution to go with the cover of Viva La Vida? Is that what happens when you become a product rather than a band? That you start looking like a load of tramps with stitched together clothes that look like they were made up at home by your mum? Look, Chris Martin is even wearing a piece of string round his waist to hold his trousers up.

Does anybody want to tell these folks? Or should we just let them buy the album and boost sales?
