I had you as Crystal Daze not Days, so I corrected that on my post. Crystal Daze is a different person.

i'm sitting on the floor with Red, Moondance, Rusty, and Brigitte (brigitte is still coming, right?). also violets is going, though still unsure about seating arrangements... she and red might swap so everyone can sit with a friend.

and nano and his wife will be sitting somewhere on the floor too (i think)

who else is coming??

Didn't Octavia say she was coming with her husband, getting there on Tuesday?

Not sure about when they're arriving, but I think she's coming. Mr. Octavia too.

Overstock has PayPal so I got the 2006 edition of the Knopf NY MapGuide there. After I used my PayPal credit it only cost me $2.50 with shipping included. Small price and it should come in handy for the Tuesday evening before the day of the show and Wednesday during the day.

I've already got a Google Map marked with a bunch of stuff to check out in the immediate Times Square area.

Let me ask you NYC veterans a question....I'm a huge Seinfeld fan and I would love to get my pic taken in front of Tom's Diner which was used as the exterior shot for Monk's on the show where they always ate. I know it's located northwest of Central Park.

I'd also like to see the Dakota where Lennon lived and was shot which is on the west side of Central Park.

Is it feasible to make trips easily on the subway for things like that? I guess there's really nothing to do but stand there and look so is it more trouble than it's worth? I'd like to do other things too but it's such a quick trip so I'd like to maximize my NYC experience.

The Dakota's reasonably easy to get to by subway. You do have to walk a couple blocks. Make sure you head over to Strawberry Fields at Central Park before/after. It's pretty cool. The entrance to the memorial is located on Central Park West at West 72nd Street, directly across from the Dakota Apartments,

I found this site: http://www.hopstop.com/

Looks like from the Marriott in Midtown, it's about 17 minutes on a subway to the Dakota and then about 26 minutes from there to Tom's for around 45 minutes total including walking for the trip up. I guess I'll have to see what other folks I'll be with feel like doing. I'm pretty open, just tossing out ideas I suppose.

You'll be able to get around pretty quickly and see whatever you want. NY is a very walky city, so you will do a lot of that regardless. I imagine Central Park in early October will be very very nice, so Central Park West is a nice destination. The Dakota is a great looking building.

the seinfeld diner is on the upper west side. like really far up there... 112th & broadway. i went there with shaz (wabbit on the other forum), mr. wabbit and red last year. we got milkshakes and NYC cheesecake. apparently proper NYC cheesecake is very different from the UK variety  (and a lot better, according to mr. wabbit)

we took a cab up there because it was quicker, and split 4 ways was not expensive at all.

you forgot Blinkie and Rusty, and Brigitte (if she comes, she bought shaz's ticket) and my two kids, Steph and Justin. (did you meet Steph in Ohio, Brian?) and Nano and his wife from Peru! and tomo and his mate, and George, and Mike from PA.... or are you just talking VT people?

both of those are right by the subway exits, and marked off on my mapbook! the Dakota is immediately across the street at the 74th (i think, might be 72nd, i'll check) street subway exit. Tom's Diner is a very short walk too, from the exit. i ALWAYS take everyone there when they come to NYC. took Shaz and Dave there (and Blinkie was with us)......mmmmmmmmmmm! best milkshakes around! i want one!

 i guess i should have read the whole thread before i replied again! sorry!

the subway would definitely be faster than a taxi by a long shot, especially since you'd already be on that side of Central Park if you go to Strawberry Fields and the Dakota! (taxi's sit in traffic!) we only took the taxi because we were on the east side, and the diner is on the west side, and the subway doesn't run across the city, only up and down! (we got lucky coz it was early and we didn't hit traffic all the way up there) we had milkshakes for like a late breakfast that day! (if i remember right!)

if any of you who are staying an extra day have a desire to go down to the Village....this pub is a must. i take everyone there too. (all my UK friends have loved it) in fact, shaz and dave went back a 2nd time in one trip! good place to have a decent (cheap) lunch in the city. the burgers and fries are fabulous, and huge, and cheap!! like $5 or something unheard of like that. and you get 2 beers, when you order one. they only serve their own beer...but it's good stuff. the old pot belly stove and sawdust on the floor makes you feel like yer in an old saloon in the 1800's! one of my fave places. (it's right around the corner from St Marks Place, so check that out while yer down there too)
