Mr. Brian wrote:Who would you like? I'll ask anyone if you have a way to contact them. It can't hurt to ask I suppose. For the record, Will did not respond to my inquiry for an interview. I'd love to do a technical interview with him similar to that Guitar magazine interview. I think Les said everything he needs to say in a recent online interview. I'm always open for suggestions.

This was unique in the sense that this period of Bunnymen history has been officially shunned and would never happen on the official site.

I'm really glad you all enjoyed the interview.

I think he said some good stuff in there and it's clear to me that he went into it cautiously knowing it couldn't last but determined to make the best of it and have a good attitude. I am so happy he was not grumpy, petty and bitter and was realistic and thoughtful. It really shows what he's made of.

That was a funny story about the Chinese guy who always wanted to give him free drinks and I had not realized that by the end they were not really doing any Mac songs. According to Steve's Recording List (see the links section), only "Silver" was being played live at later shows.

By the way, I checked out that School of Language band he mentioned and I like them quite a bit. There is a link in the interview.

Just read the Noel Burke interview. Excellent stuff there Brian. Anyone who'll know my past postings on here or the official site should know that I really only got back into the Bunnymen in 1997, so that period I am completely oblivious to (other than remembering hearing and seeing the Enlighten Me vid when it came out, but it went over my head). Anyway, it was interesting to hear about that period and what Burke's thoughts are about coming in as Mac's replacement. And has filled in some blanks in my own knowledge of the Bunnymen history. Many thanks for that.

more interesting that they had done a pub gig at the height of their fame and if you had unwittingly walked in for a quiet pint you might have seen your favourite band up close and personal. So the rumours of the gig at some small pub in the cotwolds might be true after all.

Great stuff-thanks for the interview.I still followed them around as Will and Les' playing was still great during that period. Some of the songs that were never released showed a band finding its own identity and they were a great garage punk experience towards the end.The last show I saw in Birmingham was fantastic-gritty,punky energy and a cover of Fire's My Father name was Dad.Then they split. Not the Bunnymen though.[/b]

You are correct. I went ahead and split all the responses from where I announced the interview link to this new topic and closed the old thread.

Hows about Pete Wylie? He has a website, so he'd be easy enough to contact. Of course, I can't think of a lot of questions beyond "What was Mac like back then?"

Or

"What was it like being Salieri to Mac's Mozart? Don't you think you should have just given up?"

Apparently Mac doesn't holf Noel responsible

AD: Going back a bit now, when you left the band, what did you think when the remaining Bunnymen decided to get Noel Burke in as a replacement?

IM: I think it's pretty obvious what I think. Noel Burke...the name says it all really doesn't it? No, that's not fair. It wasn't his fault, it was Will and Pete who were the berks really. But no, I thought it was disgraceful and after that I suppose it was quite surprising that I continued working with Will after that. I'm glad I did though. Johnny Marr called them Echo and the Bogusmen when that happened.

A little less generous here but you can tell getting replaced really hurt him. But he's right, it's not Noel's fault.

"The band decided to go on with another singer. I don't like to talk about it. Sometimes I do wonder how I let Will back in my life after a stab in the back like that - bringing in some no-mark to front the band."

It's kind of like dumping your girlfriend and not wanting her to go out with anyone else.
