In 1984 Ocean Rain was competing with The Unforgettable Fire for a 15 year old Happy Death Man's album of the year. Before that, we had Crocodiles, Heaven up Here and Porcupine and U2's Boy, October and War (forget that Bono turned out to be a bit of a ted, these were, for me, albums that were up there with the bunnymen's). U2 then went on to record more classics, especially The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby and Zooropa. The Bunnymen, sadly and frustratingly, never gave us anything that remotely compared to their first four albums, due to attitude, work ethic, circumstances, etc.; that's the simpler reason why U2 became bigger than the bunnymen-they stayed good longer.

By coincidence just picked up a Q from ten years ago and there's yet another big U2 spread - to coincide with the singles album. Anyways there's a bit on McGuinness and as n example of his business acumen it says (and I'v never read this before, obviously skipped this bit when I bought this) it says Island were practically broke in 1986 when they owed the yoots about $5 million in royalties, so they delivered the joshua tree without an advance and he negotiated a "rumoured" 10% in the company. And two years later Island was bought by Polygram for $300 million. Bingo.

Did anyone watch U2 At The BBC last night? I was going to watch it but I couldn't be arsed in the end and put the pilot episode of Counterpart on instead, it was quite interesting and I'm looking forward to more episodes, more so than Dark on Netflix which I can't seem to get in to. I think it's the German actors being dubbed with very American accents that's putting me off.

Anyway I recorded the U2 thing so I'll probably get round to watching it at some point.

has that been on before? i did watch some film a bit ago (kiss the sky or something U2ish), though I expect this is one of those with clips of all their performances. Will prob get it on catch up since I haven't fixed the satellite since the last time my ladder took it out.

Watched it last night, was quite good, though Bono can still irritate me just by opening his mouth. When he let the others get a word in it was quite interesting. Still prefer the older stuff to anything post 1992.

Also - playing the hits with an orchestra and choir? Is there any idea they won't pinch off our boys? :biggrin:

Just to say that I watched it, and it was terrible. Bono clearly loves himself more than Mac, which I didn’t think was possible.
Also Cat Deeley’s questions, well let’s say an 8 year old could ask more insightful questions. And saying that she got all tingly whenever they played a song, well that was just too much. I mean I get shivers down my spine when I hear Show of Strength, but I don’t want to jizz my pants.
