Yes, possibly the Spice Girls. I am thinking maybe also Right Said Fred and Chumbawumba?

I've heard that everyone that bought a Right Said Fred album went out and started their own band. It was them or the Velvet Underground. I always get those two mixed up.

(nice sig JackT!)

Is there a difference between Rhythm and Blues and just Blues only?
I thought I remember Led Zep, the Stones and Beatles all being heavily influenced by early Black American Blues?
I think wasn't "Twist and Shout" originally recorded by the Phila. R&B band, the Topnotes?
Has Madonna ever done any covers or does she only think HER stuff is worthy music? I read she listens to the new Britney LP every day. There's another talented American artist!

As close to Madonna as I get.

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Just like the term "rock" or "rock and roll", all genres of music can have a wide range of sounds but there is a difference between "blues" and "rhythm and blues" (or R&B).

Led Zeppelin can get down on their knees and thank whomever that blues man Howlin Wolf was born. Almost all their material from their first two albums are riffs and lyrics taken from his songs among others. They actually lost a couple of lawsuits about that. They came into their own later.

The Beatles early stuff as well as the Stones and The Who were all big fans of American R&B, like Bo Diddley and the Motown sound. Without it none of those bands would have ever existed as we knew them. The whole Mod scene in the 60's depended on it and bands like The Jam revived it in the 80's. The term R&B seems to get applied to a very wide range of music nowadays.

Madonna has covered the song American Pie and it's just awful.

Have you heard the original by Don McLean? Wasn't much better.

The best thing about that song: I used to work the night shift at a 60's/70's radio station. If I had to drop a deuce during my shift, I'd put that song on. Gave me 8 minutes, 41 seconds to complete the job. Nights in White Satin always filled the bill nicely as well.

We'd do the occasional Beach Boys weekends. Torture. All the songs were like 2 minutes. Same with the early Beatles stuff.

Thanks for that, Mr. Brian!

I recently saw a Who documentary ( RocDocs on VH1.) I never really cared for the Who but it showed their early days when they had other band names ( I forget) and how they were influenced by older music too. I gained new respect for them.

I asked my Husband if he wanted to see the new Stones movie since Martin Scorcese(sp?) directed it and he said "no, because the Stones are nothing but a nostalgia act".
What exactly does that mean and does anyone on here think the Bunnymen are? I don't.

Also, Madonna was just voted recently as one of the top ugliest women in the world in some men's magazine!

Yes, we gave the world Madonna-- and they loved it. We also gave them Jazz, Rock & Roll, Bluegrass, Motown, R&B etc. etc. etc.

I also was fortunate enough to visit Berlin (both sides) in '82. It was a huge experience for me. I didn't know anything about the Bunnymen, though. The kids I stayed with gave me a cassette of what was called "Neue Deutsche Welle" and it contained some pretty hilarious stuff. (My favorite was a song called "Fred vom Jupiter.")

This explains an awful lot!

No, I don't. And I think it's a gross insult to be called a 'tribute' band.

I asked this of Unwillinglymine once on the other forum (who is the same person) and I'll ask again, is this Mac? Have you decided to finally give in and become addicted to the computer? The way you put sentences together makes me think that

Damn, I mention Mabimbo and the forum goes ape shit!

But I will always have the Bunnymen to thank for saving the rest of the world from the drivel that came out of the 80's.......

Yeah know, and this will probably get me laughed off of this site, but my other favorite band from that era was.... damn this is gonna hurt..... Gene Loves Jezebel.

Okay, I am ready to be beat up.... just don't hit the face.....

The best show I saw with the Bunnymen also included Gene Loves Jezebel and New Order. Here in the states at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia MD.

Just the best show I have ever seen.... well, maybe not ever, but damn close. I am even counting the time I saw the Bunnymen at Wembley Arena in Nov of 87.

Right before Her Majesty's Government kicked me out of the country.... but that is another thread all together....
