fire away on flowers. I liked flowers immediately and then went off it. Second half's where it goes off for me. something with the production or whatever. Dont really know what thast mens but its like its just not quite right. PLus, as usual they picked the wrong singles. as for the wayg... artwork, its probably not even that as such, its mac with his suit on and trainers, and his funny eyes making an appearance from where there should be shades. Dont mind willl's car coat. is that the one with the big tie too? or is that evergreen.

Is Mac not bare foot? You know me and Flowers-lowest point in their recording career-badly recorded, badly played bunch of demoes by a band without a record label and motivation....apart from Burn For me forget it.Songs much better live though.

burn for me? cack. I took that as a blatant attempt to do a bit of an ocean rain - but without all the good songs before it. I like the first few - king of kings is really good and the title track should have been a single i reckon. what was the jingly jangly single? After that most would have been better in an electrafixion stylee. oh my, we haven't done this for ages have we?

I like Burn for Me as well. But they got the keyboard player to press "strings" on his £99.99 bought it from Argos keyboard to play in the background whereas a full blown orchestral arrangement would have improved that song. That album is like the Bunnymen grey album. Weaker songs though.

Wasn't the jingly jangly It's Alright? With the spinkly sparkly webdad flipthing-style video that was on one of the two versions of the CDs.

Flowers was their forced attempt to be an indie band. At the time I convinced myself I liked it but I was in denial just like they were.

I convinced myself I liked it too.

I know you know we know I'm going down
Help me get my feet back off the ground
I know you know we know I'm going down
Help me get my head back in the clouds

The only lyrics that are worse is Everything Kills You and not by much.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I really like Will's solo in Burn for Me but agreed it was a real steal off Ocean Rain. However the winner for worst Bunnymen song, worst lyrics and THE worst keyboard sound ever is in my book:

Everybody knows, how your garden grows
Everybody knows, how your garden grows
Everyone can see, I'm blind as I can be
The woods look just like trees
Look like trees to me

And I don't even get it
I don't know what you're trying to say
You're never gonna let me forget it
It's always gonna get in the way

It's moving much too fast
You know it ain't gonna last
I think we're heading for a crash
Heading for a crash

It's coming to a natural end
I'm going round my last bend
There's something you just can't mend
Things you just can't mend

I can't even remember
I don't know what the day is today
You're putting the no in November
And taking all the be's out of May

Everybody knows, how your garden grows
Everybody knows, how your garden grows
Everyone can see, I'm blind as I can be
The woods look just like trees
Look like trees to me

And I don't even get it
I don't know what you're trying to say
You're never gonna let me forget it
It's always gonna get in the way

Life Goes On is far worse than Everybody Knows.

Gad, what a horrid album.

Indie? I remember looking forward to that album when I heard that they'd signed to Cooking Vinyl - I thought that they would get all experimental and creative, free of the shackles of the corporate money making machine. It was really a humdinger of an album. I still can't decide though which is worse though, Flowers or The Fountain. I can't listen to either album.

I thought Will's guitar work was good, but the vocals were shit. I never got to the part where I actually listened to the lyrics. Or bothered reading them.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)

warming up to you, DD (just a little). irony is a hard thing to define; usually go out of my way to avoid proclaiming that something is "ironic" in case it really is not.

to those such as FC who said they like Get In The Car, thank you. Esteem from one's contemporaries is the purest compliment, one I hope to soon return.

Gotta agree about Everybody Knows, what a crappy, crappy song. Keyboards blow on it, as does just about everything else on the song. Definitely one of their worst tunes, not sure if it's their worst song but it's up there.

Flowers had some cool sounds on some of the songs, but almost all of the songs were weak. It really seemed like Mac phoned it in. I will say that It's Alright still has some of the coolest music the Bunnymen have made since getting back together, awesome bass line and guitar in it, unfortunately Mac ruined that one, too.

With Porcupine, for all it's Wagnerian magnificence, the more melodic songs were left toward the end of the record, and the most melodic and magnificent till last-In Bluer Skies, an all time classic.
With Flowers, mostly tosh but with two "OK songs"- Burn for Me and Flowers- and two great songs- King of Kings and the classic SuperMellowMan-they did the exact opposite, leaving the worse song -"Burn for Me"-a sort of sickly imitation of Ocean Rain-till last. If they had got the order of the songs right perhaps the album might even be discussed as not exactly as a classic, but at least a return to form.
P.S. some of us like seeing Mac's "funny eyes" far better than the distant and reclusive figure that disappeared behind the glasses-about the same time as their fall from grace with WAYGTDWYL-O.K. I know he needs his prescription lenses to see, but can't he afford contact lenses? Or perhaps after that album he didn't want to be recognised. He should leave the shades to medallion men like Bono.

I actually like the catchiness of Life Goes On, it's sort of a guilty pleasure, but the intro sounds just like the Friends theme song which could make it arguably their worst song just based on that alone.
