yep, if the name thing didn't kill it off, calling your band a project would have, after all thats only a step away from referring to your songs as product. I think writing songs nobody liked was probably the main error.

Its a bit like the hingerland world cup performance. Everyone on their backs for being crap after a fairly good run and a lucky draw. boo. sack em. The french had the right idea, sending em home in crater class. Then two games into the next competetion and rooney scores and wahey, fantastic, we are the lads, hingerrrland etc (I know, I'd make a rubbish footy fan), and everythigns great again. All they needed was one catchy little tune. People have short memories. Didn't we have this conversation last week? Smiffy said his final word on the matter. See if we can tempt him back again.

Regarding "catchy little tunes," on repeated listens, it gradually dawns on you that Reverberation is actually a very melodic album. But it's similar to Heaven up Here in that the concepts it hints at are so big, the brain takes time to process just how great the album is, and many people just don't have the patience. In short, it's a grower. [/b]

Certainly it is a grower and on reflection, it's a very good album that has stood the test of time and certainly better than Mac's solo stuff. But I guess at the time, Bunnymen or not, it was not well received, even with one review calling it a turkey. I take it though it got to no 19 in the UK charts, which surprisingly is better than WAYGTDWYL? and anything since. Put it into today's context for album sales for alternative-type music and WEA may well have kept them on.

Im back.At the time I remember really struggling to find any decent press about them at all. Most of the reviews sounded like the journo's had made their mind up before even playing the album which was a real shame.2/5 seemed about an average mark. The odd live review etc..plus at that time the press were still pretty pro-Mac the mouth so I dont think that helped them.Fast forward a couple of years and pretty much both Bunnymen MK2 and Mac solo were being ignored so neither won the war.If you think, thats the last but one full album Les played bass on.....what a waste .
