American usage and British usage differ.

By any standard Zeppelin was one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

Yes but Robert Plant was nothing but a self-conscious gyrating poser with an average voice who was good at wailing. They did write some great songs, though. Tangerine being one of them.

So Ian McCulloch + gyrating?

ABBA was always one of my favourite bands and I listen to them to this day. Led Zep is brilliant too and yes I still listen to them too.

Btw, ABBA has sold a total of 375.000.000 records worldwide to date, and counting...
Impressive.

And you know that I'll pick up
Every time you call
Just to thank you one more time

ABBA's best single is "Knowing Me, Knowing You". I like that song a lot.

Sorry Dr Cheese, I forgot that the VT forum already has a cheesy connection, although obviously no connections there with naffness, novelties and oddities like ABBA and Lady Barkin Mad.

oh, ok. Nah, different class of self-consciousness. Mac used to have charm while Plant was just bumptious. And Mac's voice was better than Robert Plants.

"But Will just happens to be the best, most lyrical guitar player in probably the history of time, with [Bowie guitarist] Mick Ronson. They’re the two for me. No one can do what Will does. What he does on “The Killing Moon,” no one can get anywhere near him. And that’s just one song. "

Has anyone noticed that Mac has been excessively complimentary to Will in recent interviews? Maybe he's just giving Will his proper due, but I wonder if things are not too rosy behind the scenes, and Mac's trying to make sure that Will doesn't leave.

He has to know that he needs Will in order to call this the Bunnymen at all. Without Will, it's just Mac solo - and that's an even more dismal business than the Bunnymen have become. Mac would probably kill for Morrissey's autonomy and success (though he'd never admit it), but the Bunnymen name is the only thing keeping him from playing even smaller venues.
