Please refer to it by its proper name - The Fountrain
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

It doesn't feel authentic coming from me.

Maybe "you better leave holmes"?

Good day, Sir.

I said, GOOD DAY.

On the official site it's referred to as "The Foutain" a couple of times. Makes me think "poutain!"

Bunny-bashing is a sort of sado-masochistic pleasure. We come here to ritually crucify our former messiah. In some cases it's a saddo-masochistic pleasure, in that we can console our own failures and regrets with the fact that even living gods can take a fall given enough time. But its still better to be a has-been than a never-was-been.
In a way the band has become a sort of surrogate for middle-aged angst.

For me personally I feel a growing frustration that they didnt call it a day at the height of their powers, or even maybe after Evergreen or WAYGTDWYL. Its pains me to have to have Flowers and Siberia taking up memory on my Ipod.

Plus I dont feel the same about them post Pete and Les and, to rub salt even further in the wound, Mac has now started to belittle their contribution. That I find very hard to take.

I love the (real) Echo & The Bunnymen with all my heart (I am playing disc 2 of the box set as we speak). The (new) Bunnymen ran out of steam a while back and that saddens me. Going to see them nowadays gives me flashes of the old buzz I used to get...but then the fog clears and instead of Les there is some hired hand and nobody has ever replaced Pete.

Maybe I am stuck in the past. Maybe I cant let go. I would love to convince myself I love The Fountrain but I cant. It sounds like a band wanting to be the Bunnymen, not the Bunnymen themselves. I also cant subscribe to the view that I should be grateful they are still releasing music and touring - that only works if the material has some artistic merit or the tours some degree of freshness. I find neither is the case and I cant comprehend people who were Bunnymen fans years ago getting the same thrill out of it all. Parts of me wishes I was like them, I even tried around the time of Siberia. But I cant...which hurts as well.

I like the fans more than the band (this incarnation of the band).

Bunnymen - everyday you find a new way to break my heart.

I'll never forget the excitement I felt when I learned that Mac, Will and Les were bringing back the Bunnymen. I loved Electrafixion and I thought the comeback would be amazing. The press was excited, music fans outside of their cult were interested. It seemed anything was possible. Normally when bands reform there is a lot eye rolling and winks but not so with the Bunnymen. It felt right. But then they released Evergreen which I tried to love but it seemed too polite after Burned and we all know about the series of missteps since then. Siberia is probably my favorite post 97 album and if the Fountain were a Mac solo album in name as it is in deed I would enjoy it more.
