U.S. tour cancelled

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

Has this ever happened before with any other band? It sucks. Mostly for the band since that's how they make most of their money.

Could it be that the shows they've already performed are marginally profitable in the small venues they play? Only 3000 paying customers out of 7000 people show up at the cavernous Nokia Theater? It seems reasonable that any added tax burden may not make it worthwhile proceeding.

We'll really know what's going on if they cancel the December UK shows as well.

I really feel for you guys who were looking forward to seeing them perform live. Cross your fingers for 2010.

I just read the other thread about Ian's interview.

Sometimes you go and sing your head and think, "I wish I was watching telly." I don't want to criticize Boston too much, but I thought the audience was very Sunday night lame. I thought, "What's the point of doing this?"

There you go! Minimal profits coupled with lame audiences. US tour cancelled.

Next time stick me in front of Ian and I'll make sure he sees a little exuberance from the crowd. I should have brought my second copy of the 1979 "Pictures" single to fling at him at the Nokia.

Wow! Thankfully I didn't purchase any plane tickets and was planning on driving. I hadn't book any hotels yet - can we say procrastination! I did buy a new GPS specifically for the trip, but I had been wanting one anyway. All I can hope for the 2010 shows is they add a show in Charlotte - or better yet the Raleigh-Durham area! This sucks, but the timing will be better for me next year anyway. I feel sorry for those of you who purchased plane tickets. But hopefully for a small fee the ticket dates can be changed.
This is really bad for the band though - not being able to capitalize on the release of the new album with an immediate tour. Leave it up to the good old IRS to screw things up.

You believe this IRS cover story? When was the last time you heard of a band cancelling a whole tour because of a 30 day rule? Maybe the shows were half sold, the guitarist was pissed, the lead singer was pushing a half-baked product, and the management didn't see any greenbacks being made. Ian stated in an interview the the orchestra thing was setting them back too much -- could be Fountain related.

Best to re-group and come back stronger in April to the states to flex and do it proper. Maybe then they'll play The Puppet.

It's not hard to believe. The IRS excuse coupled with lack-luster ticket sales is probably more true - or maybe they didn't break even on the North American OR shows and want to wait and see how the album does. I just hope that they really do come back in the Spring!

I'm glad you didn't buy tickets, EB. That would have really sucked. $150.00+ to change a ticket on most airlines. :-(

Yeah and I'm glad you decided not to go to the Atlanta show after all! Dodged a bullet there. $150 - that would have been more than a plane ticket to Atlanta from here!

Get over yourselves!
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I'm glad, too! I would have been stuck with the in-laws and no Bunnymen!

I love references to other sites, so here they are:

http://www.taxprophet.com/archives/news ... 610nl.html

Anyone else have any they have found?

They are sold out in the UK on many of their dates.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)
