What's in a name? Electrafixion

Postby Frank The Bunny » Thu Dec 02, 2010 10:47 am

I may have mentioned this back in the 90s, but I've got my suspicions about how the name "Electrafixion" came about. I believe Will said he had a dream that Mac was strung up on an electric crucifix. I think it came out of Mac & Will's search for a label/distribution deal, or maybe by looking through their music collection

This, a close-up of the spine of The Cure's "Wish" CD, released in 1992:

I also wonder about the whole missing Mac/Marr tapes legend.
By my calculations, Marr was already working with The The and Electronic during the period in question. Perhaps their collaboration didn't go beyond working out a couple tunes together, with nothing more than a cassette demo on tape.

Isn't there a picture similar to Will's dream of a certain Jim Morrison being crucified / electrified on one of the Doors album covers?

I agree, much like the overblown Crucial Three thing where in reality there were about 2 get togethers in someones living room or something like that

They did enough that Marr got songwriting credit on at least two songs -- On Top Of the World (everybody's favorite) and at least one Electrafixion song. Otherwise, I think the partnership (and heist) was more hype than reality.

Interesting theory on the name's origin, Frank.

The Mac and Marr collaboration was a fully formed album of Godlike material which was too good for the likes of the Villiers Terrace crowd.

It will be released when we have all moved on to the next world.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I can't afford to move with things as they are.

I hate that champagne socialist Ben Elton. All his knob gags and 'double seat double seat gotta get a double seat'.His humour wasnt dangerous,it was the extremity of his target Thatcher that gave him a perceived edge. Now he writes musicals about the band Queen.'My names Ive got a £4m Belsize pad,and goodnight"

Anyone see Frankie Boyle show on Ch4??Some quality stuff on that!
