I would have paid to see this. From BOF:

"While I have witnessed Ian's verbal brashness before and at times had been funny, last nite it turned ugly. While I agree the one woman who was heckling him should have been removed, with the normal oh speak english comments. He went at her as well and that got a bit out of hand. Ian prodded at this one guy on the side of the stage from the start of the show, and by the end of the nite it had turned into a full on fight. Ian started it, this saddened me as he is one I think very highly of. And when I mean fight, Ian went right at the guy, and the two of them went down on the stage. Took 6 stage hands and the band to break it up."

"I was sitting stage left where the fight occurred. I didn't talk to the guy but he seemed like a big fan but right from the beginning, Ian was giving him alot of verbal abuse including calling him what I'm fairly sure was the C word (tough to understand his accent). I thought it started because he wasn't standing up when most people were but then again, I wasn't either as I'm in the front row, I'm tall and I had some kids sitting behind me (common courtesy). Later in the show, the guy had had enough and when it got to a slower part of Lips Like Sugar, he screamed to Ian that his mother was a whore. Ian came right over and they went at it. If someone called your mother that, well, you probably going to take a swing at him too but from my standpoint, it was Ian's fault as he said just as bad."

Ok . . . I am going to see the band now in hopes of witnessing just such shenanigans.

Good man. .
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

The Olympia is a boxing and cage-fighting venue after all.

I'm looking forward to the punch up more than the gig.

Sounds like Ian won. From the venue's facebook page:

"So - did Ian really punch that guy in the face? We left just prior to the end of Lips Like Sugar and by the time we got outside, some dude was asking "Did you see Ian McCulloch punch me in the face?" Almost like he was proud of it."

Probably was giddy because he thinks he has a million-dollar lawsuit that's his for the winning...

Hey, if Ian McCulloch can get away with punching a girl in a bathroom stall, he can get away with punching I guy for calling his mother a whore.

Peasy's tour blog for that day is conspicuous by its absence.

But the best part of that night was observing the drunken Connecticut crowd of 40 year olds, some of which were in sweater vests, making absolute fools of themselves, and even heckling Ian , which made him utter some nice things such as “nice tits” , “when’s the last time you got shagged”, and “you’re a big old cunt”.

However, the icing on the cake was when Ian started making fun of these two bearded 20 year old guys ,who didn’t stand up when he was singing throughout the whole night. They were in the front row so it was quite noticeable, plus its lame to sit at a concert. Anyway by the end of the night I guess one of the bearded men had enough, and I saw him getting up to get drinks a lot so he was loaded. Ian was singing Lips Like Sugar, and during it made some comment to the guy, I think he called him fat ,well this drunken dude jumps on the stage, knocks over Ian, and four security guards jump on him.
