Well my hints were to meant to suggest that its a namesake of young BIll's - in fact there are two namesakes, father & son known for this, but they aren't generally known as billy. hmm. STart there and then get back to the internet and laboratories.

Nope. Righto, as I hinted, billy gragg is the first red herring, its william bragg really. There were two william braggs well known as scientists and both were crystallographers, so in their labs they will have spent many a day studying crystals, i.e. would havbe had many crystal days. Obvious really. Is there only us now? Oh dear. Last one then for now - Jensen Kimmet probably had fun rocking the cradle or going around the world or walking the dog even ( I think this one's been done before).
